Euxenite-(Y) from
Beryl Pit, Quadeville area, Lyndoch Township, Brudenell-Lyndoch-and-Raglan, Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada

Locality type:Pit
Classification
Species:Euxenite-(Y)
Formula:(Y,Ca,Ce,U,Th)(Nb,Ta,Ti)2O6
Comments:originally described as lyndochite (Miller 1898, Ellsworth 1927)

Euxenite crystals of about 3 to 5 cm can be found but they are found infrequently & they occur within a close proximity to each other, so if you locate one other are probably present nearby.

Bob Downs looked at the Ellsworth (1927) analysis (July 23, 2022; per com. R. Gunter) and found a good match for Euxenite -(Y) with a crystal chemistry of:

Y 0.577
Ce 0.095
Th 0.067
Ca 0.310

Fe0.090
Nb 1.115
Ta 0.062
Ti 0.734

Cation Sum 3.048
O 5.995

The older analyses can be used to quantify these niobates into species.
Habit:located in rotten looking feldspar
Quality for species:Good crystals or rich for species - important (!)
Abundance at site:Rare
Confirmation
Validity:Believed Valid
