Manchester in 1916 at an apartment building excavation at Haven Ave. & 179th Street, and within a few years, Manchester and Gilman Stanton also located gem spessartine crystals at construction sites at Riverdale Drive & 165th Street. and a third locality at Ft, Washington Ave. & 181st Street. All three localities are within a few blocks of each other on a ridge (Manchester, 1931), near the eastern terminus of the George Washington Bridge in the Washington Heights neighborhood. | |
