About PicroliteHide

Formula:
D3[Si2O5](OH)4 D= Mg, Fe, Ni, Mn, Al, Zn
Name:
First described from Taberg,Sweden, in 1808. Named from the Greek pikros = bitter in allusion to its composition, containing magnesia, and lithos = stone.
Often considered a variety of antigorite, but picrolite from Taberg was later found to be carlosturanite, and it seems that other picrolite specimens can be other species of serpentine, including lizardite and chrysotile.
Columnar or coarsely fibrous (non-asbestiform) variety of serpentine, commonly referred to as a variety of antigorite but may be other species.
