Formula:
(Ca,Fe,Mn,Sb,Bi,Y)2(Ti,Ta,Nb,W)2(O,OH)7
Colour:
Reddish brown
Hardness:
5½
Specific Gravity:
4.74
Name:
After Professor Jakob Grubbe Cock Schetelig [December 18, 1875 Asker, Norway - October 17, 1935 Oslo, Norway], mineralogist, petrologist, meteoriticist, cartographer, and editor. He was professor of mineralogy at the University of Oslo and Director of the Mineralogical Museum in Oslo. He specialized in granite pegmatite minerals and named thortveitite.
Possibly a member of the Betafite Group, but more data is required before the species is recognised.
Originally described by Bjørlykke (1937) from Torvelona, Iveland, Aust-Agder, Norway.
