UM2008-49-SO:FeNa

Valid as an unnamed mineral
This page is currently not sponsored. Click here to sponsor this page.
Formula:
Na3Fe(SO4)3
Crystal System:
Trigonal
Associated with eldfellite and UM2008-50-SO:HMgNa.
The Na analogue of pyracmonite (though not isostructural with it).
The Fe analogue of heimaeyite.

Reported as "mineral EN".

Known as a synthetic compound (obtained during thermal transformation of sideronatrite at ca. 400oC, by Scordari et al., 2011).

Water-sensitive and relatively unstable under ambient conditions.

The crystal structure (material of Scordari et al., 2011) contains FeO6 octahedra that are share corners with sulfate tetrahedra to form infinite Fe(SO4)3 chains along c. Na atoms join these chains to form the 3D network with strong Fe-O-S and weak Na-O bonds.
