Formula:
CaAl3(PO4)2(OH)5 · H2O
The original paper formula: (Ca,Sr,Pb)2Al7(OH)16(PO4)3•3H2O
Colour:
Buff yellow
Lustre:
Waxy
Hardness:
3
Crystal System:
Triclinic
Possibly a triclinic polymorph of crandallite, from a forest at Bajo de Santa Fé forest, El Petén, Guatemala. Interestingly, crandallite is reported from this department.
Chemically similar to 'cirrolite', gatumbaite, foggite.
Found 3 m below a seasonal swamp forest, within decayed roots; also dispersed within clayey sediments. Forms grains; as powdery material; also small masses, up to 5 mm, no crystal faces recognizable. Associated with gypsum. Biogeochemical genesis suggested (decay of roots of Melanostomaceae).

Interference Colours:
The colours simulate birefringence patterns seen in thin section under crossed polars. They do not take into account mineral colouration or opacity.
Michel-Levy Bar The default colours simulate the birefringence range for a 30 µm thin-section thickness. Adjust the slider to simulate a different thickness.
Grain Simulation You can rotate the grain simulation to show how this range might look as you rotated a sample under crossed polars.
