UM1982-08-PO:FeHMn

This page is currently not sponsored. Click here to sponsor this page.
Formula:
FeMnPO5 · 2H2O
Crystal System:
Monoclinic
Said to be similar to 'UM1949-01-PO:Fe' and possibly to a phase reported by Frondel in vol. 53 of the American Mineralogist (pp. 513-540).

Radial, fibrous habit; poor material quality preceded obtaining better optical and PXRD data. No information on water presence, content or analysis found in the abstract of the original paper.

Optical Data of UM1982-08-PO:FeHMnHide

Type:
Biaxial
RI values:
nα = 1.80 nγ = 1.85
Max. Birefringence:
δ = 0.050
Based on recorded range of RI values above.

Interference Colours:
The colours simulate birefringence patterns seen in thin section under crossed polars. They do not take into account mineral colouration or opacity.

Michel-Levy Bar The default colours simulate the birefringence range for a 30 µm thin-section thickness. Adjust the slider to simulate a different thickness.

Grain Simulation You can rotate the grain simulation to show how this range might look as you rotated a sample under crossed polars.

Surface Relief:
Moderate
Comments:
2V is small; absorption: Z > Y = X; fiber axis: c
