Masahide Akasaka
Formula:
(CaCe)(Fe3+AlMn2+)O[Si2O7][SiO4](OH)
Colour:
Dark brown
Hardness:
5 - 5½
Crystal System:
Monoclinic
Name:
Named for being the Ce-analog of ferriakasakaite. The root name is in honor of Masahide Akasaka (b. 1950), professor at Shimane University, Japan. The name includes a prefix and a suffix indicating constituent elements according to the epidote-supergroup nomenclature.
Isostructural with:
A monoclinic (P21/m) epidote-supergroup mineral.
Ce-analogue of ferriakasakaite-(La).

It is virtually impossible to distinguish between ferriakasakaite-(Ce) and manganiakasakaite-(La) by physical properties.

Compare Unnamed (Fe3+-analogue of piemontite).
