About Blistered CopperHide

Colour:
Brassy
Lustre:
Metallic
Name:
In allusion to the blistered-appearing botryoidal structure, and perhaps for its visual similarlity to the "blister copper" from smelting.
Previously listed as a botryoidal variety of chalcopyrite, but recent research has shown the story to be more complicated than this, and many are isocubanite or possibly chalcopyrite pseudomorphs after isocubanite.

Chinese ball blistered copper specimens have been shown to be mostly isocubanite with a surface coating containing chalcopyrite and galena.

Very often referred by collectors as "Blister Copper", but this name also refers to a partly purified copper with a blistered surface formed during smelting ( see Blister copper (smelted)).
