
Jussara-K [UFMA]
Jussara-K was a Brazilian environmental data collection satellite developed by the Federal University of Maranhão. The satellite was intended to collect environmental data in hard-to-reach regions by communicating with strategically positioned ground-based data collection platforms in the Alcântara region of Brazil.
The mission was to support near real-time territorial monitoring of the state of Maranhão. The satellite was designed to expand regional environmental observation capabilities, particularly in remote areas where conventional monitoring infrastructure is limited.
Jussara-K was developed by the Federal University of Maranhão (UFMA) in partnership with Brazilian startups and national institutions. The mission included cooperation with CRON Sistemas e Tecnologias for satellite development activities and mission support.
The satellite was launched as one of several payloads on the maiden flight of the Hanbit-Nano rocket, but failed to reach orbit.
