Almaz 1V [NPO Machinostroenye]
Almaz 1V (also called Almaz 2) was an improved version of the Almaz-T radar satellite. It featured a new radar system, which would have provided a resolution of 5 to 7 meters. In addition, an optical-electronic payload on the satellite would have been capable of producing imagery with a resolution of 2.5 4 meters.
Alamaz-1v was to carry following instruments:
- SAR-10 3.1025 GHz synthetic aperture radar (based on the Almaz-T SAR) operating in a low 15 to 40 m or a medium 15 m resolution mode using the starboard antenna or in a high resolution 5 to 7 meter mode using the port antenna.
- SAR-70 0.429 GHZ synthetic aperture radar operating in a low 15 to 60 m resolution mode using the starboard antenna.
- 4-channel optical stereo imager providing 2.5 to4 m resolution
- 2 MSU-E scanners
- MSU-SK visible/IR radiometer
- sea surface radiometer
- Balkan-2 lidar to measure cloud altitudes
Almaz was also designated Resurs-R.
NPO Mashinostroyenia ran into financial crisis in 1994 and the project to build Almaz 1V was cancelled.
