Argonaut Demo (also known as Navigator or Argo Mission 1) is the first demonstration mission by Argo Space, developed to validate the company's Argonaut orbital logistics spacecraft architecture. Built primarily in-house, the spacecraft will demonstrate technologies for long-duration, reusable space transportation based on a novel water-propellant propulsion system while also carrying commercial technology demonstration payloads.
The mission serves as the first flight of Argo's water-based spacecraft architecture, which uses water as a storable, non-cryogenic propellant for both high-efficiency and high-thrust propulsion modes. The approach is intended to support low-cost transportation to geosynchronous and cislunar orbits while enabling on-orbit refueling and spacecraft reusability. The demonstration will validate the propulsion system, refueling interface, flight software, and other core technologies required for the company's planned orbital logistics network.
The spacecraft was designed, manufactured, and integrated almost entirely by Argo Space. More than 75% of the vehicle was developed in-house, including the toroidal water propellant tank, propulsion system, lightweight roll-out solar arrays, water-cooled avionics, power systems, flight software, and spacecraft simulation environment. Several subsystems, including solar array drive actuators, solar panels, and thruster gimbals, were also developed internally after suitable commercial solutions were unavailable.
In addition to demonstrating Argo's spacecraft technologies, the mission carries commercial payloads for Anduril Industries, ThinkOrbital, and Infinite Orbits, providing in-orbit demonstrations alongside the primary technology validation objectives. The company considers the flight a high-risk demonstration that will establish the technical foundation for future reusable orbital logistics vehicles.
