
ASNARO 2 [USEF]
The ASNARO 2 (Advanced Satellite with New system Architecture for Observation) is an planned Japanese radar satellite. It will feature an X-band radar.
The satellite is based on NEC's NEXTAR NX-300L bus. The imaging system is the 1 kW XSAR, a X-band SAR with a ground resolution of 1 m and a swath width of 10 km. XSAR can also be employed in the ScanSAR mode, which uses the satellites attitude control system to sweep out adjacent image strips to allow a broader ground swath to over 50 km, but with a reduced resolution of 16 meters.
ASNARO 2 was planned to be launched in November 2017 on an Epsilon launch vehicle. Due to a defect in an electric system on the third Epsilon Launch Vehicle discovered during the inspection at the site, Japan decided to postpone the launch of the satellite to January 2018.
