Chutian 001 [Zhuhai air show]
Chutian 001 (also known as Chaodigui Jishu Shiyan) is a small Chinese satellite to perform key technology checks for an experimental satellite in very low Earth orbit (VLEO), marking an initial step towards building a 300-satellite constellation for high-resolution remote sensing and communications.
It showed core capabilities like satellite system performance, high-resolution smart imaging and space environment monitoring. Photos of a model of the satellite on display at the 2023 Zhuhai air show revealed the satellites streamlined, bullet-shaped body designed to reduce atmospheric drag, a key challenge for spacecraft operating below 300 km where air resistance is much greater.
The satellite was launched on 21 May 2024 on the third Kuaizhou-11 launch. It operated for at least one year.
