Irvine 01

Irvine 01 [IPSF]

The Irvine 01 is a 1U CubeSat built by a team of students from five high schools, with guidance from universities and industry experts. The Irvine01 mission is an educational mission that gives high school students the experience of building, testing, and controlling a nanosatellite, with the aim of developing interest and talent in the engineering field.

It consists of the following subsystems:

• Power – solar panels will generate power, which will be stored in a battery.
• Propulsion – Magnetorquers and an electric thruster will be used to adjust the orbit of the satellite
• Camera – the camera will be used to take 3 MP pictures of bright stars and the moon, which will be sent back to the ground station for analysis.
• Communications – The radio will allow for two-way communication between the ground station and the satellite.

Commands will be sent from the ground station to the satellite, while telemetry data and pictures will be sent from the satellite to the ground station.

In addition, there will be an experimental UV-LED optical communications for one way communication from the satellite to the ground station.

The Ecuadorian Space Agency EXA will provide parts and consulting for satellite. EXA will provide the NEE 02 Krysaor-class solar deployable arrays DSA-1, the NEE 01 Pegaso-class battery banks BA01/S, the NEMEA anti radiation and thermal shields, titanium structural components and magnetorquers for attitude control

It was originally manifested on a Dnepr rocket in 2017. As the availability of Dnepr had become doubtful, it had been moved to an Indian PSLV-XL for launch in 2018. Eventually it was agin moved to an Electron KS launch.
