Strela-3M (also known as Rodnik-S) is an improved version of the Strela-3 military communications satellites.

Like earlier satellites in the Strela series, the Strela-3M spacecraft support “store-and-forward” communications. As they pass over a transmitting station, they capture data—such as fax, telex, or e-mail—in an onboard recorder. When the satellite later comes within range of the recipient’s ground station, it transmits the stored message. This approach is particularly useful for communications in remote regions without conventional terrestrial links. Strela-3M systems are widely believed to serve military, intelligence, and other governmental users.

The beginning with the satellites launched in 2025, a new version was introduced which replaces western electronic by Russian produced components. These may be named Klyuch.

The first one was launched on 21.12.2005 on a Kosmos-3M booster together with a Gonets-M satellite, which represents the civilian version. Later satellites were launched on Rokot-KM boosters.

Kosmos 2483 has not maneuvered after launch and was reportedly considered a complete loss.
