UM5-Ribat is a Moroccan university-built nanosatellite developed by Mohammed V University of Rabat (UM5R) in cooperation with the National Center for Scientific and Technical Research (CNRST) and the Royal Center for Space Studies and Research (CRERS).
The 3U CubeSat satellite was developed at the Center for Research in Space Technologies (CURT) at the Mohammadia School of Engineers. It has a mass of less than 4 kg and dimensions of approximately 300 Ũ 100 Ũ 100 mm.
UM5-Ribat carries a communications payload for receiving and processing signals from Automatic Identification System (AIS) and Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) transmitters. The satellite is also intended to collect data from Internet of Things (IoT) terminals in Morocco. Its reprogrammable architecture allows the onboard functions to be modified in orbit.
The satellites are operated by CURT using dedicated ground stations for telemetry, command and data reception. Data collected by the missions is made available to government authorities, universities and research institutions in Morocco.
It was launched on 16 August 2024 aboard a SpaceX Falcon-9 v1.2 (Block 5) from Vandenberg Space Force Base, together with the UM5-EOSat Earth observation satellite.
