Winter Warmer beer fest coming this month
This is 2 weeks away, and I'm trying to gauge interest in going. The full article can be read at the link below. I'll post responses from people as I get them.

EXCERPTS:
ASHEVILLE – Thirst may know no season. Beer is enjoyed all year long. But beer festivals? Most likely they're going to be in the spring, summer or fall. Or in other words, about anytime other than the dead of winter.
On Jan. 24, the second annual Winter Warmer beer bash happens at the Haywood Park ballroom, presented by Asheville Brews Cruise, the outfit that offers tours of local breweries. Brews Cruise co-founder Mark Lyons is moving the party uptown this year, to the Haywood Park Hotel ballroom (that's the space behind the Bier Garden restaurant and pub).

Along with Highland, Green Man, Asheville Pizza and Brewing, and French Broad and Pisgah brewing, the party will also include The Wedge and the new, not-yet-opened Craggie Brewing Co. (to be located on Hilliard Avenue). Other breweries scheduled to attend include Heinzelmannchen Brewery (Sylva), Appalachian Craft Brewery (Fletcher), Duck-Rabbit (Farmville), and from Nashville, Tenn., Yazoo. More could be added to the mix.

The Winter Warmer follows the same format as many beer festivals (music by Brushfire Stankgrass and Woody Wood), barbecue (by Luella's) and a sampling glass (help yourself to lots of small servings of beer). But unlike the warmer weather events, it's indoors. The Haywood Park ballroom is a good place to present this shindig, with bathrooms and lots of parking in the lots and on the surrounding streets (remember to feed those meters). The cost is $36, or $20 for the designated driver tickets.

Spring Fling Is Upon Us!
Well, here we are, ready to go, and we still have no idea who's going to be here. Please let us know how many are coming!! We have to prepare for adequate food and benerage compensation, and facilities to match! So Please respond, eh?

Directions are as follows, per each direction in.

From the ATL/Asheville side; come to A'ville, and take I-26 East to Exit 9, for Burnsville, Spruce Pine, and US19. Take US19 North through Burnsville. 4 miles past B'ville, you'll come to Micaville, and take NC80 South (lots of signs for Mt. Mitchell here). Go 4 more miles and watch for the Poplar Grove General Store and Pizza Buffet on the left. 1/4 mile further on, on the right, you'll see the Shops at Celo, a group of wooden buildings. Just past there, you'll turn right on Upper Brown's Creek. Go all the way to the wooden bridge, where the road turns to gravel. Go over the bridge 50 ft, and turn right on Piney Branch Way. Come down the hill.

For the Charlotte/Greenville crowd, go to Marion (NC226, US221, I-40), and North on 221/226. 7-8 miles North, NC226 turns left to Spruce Pine, and so do you. At Spruce pine, turn left on US19 South, go 9 miles to Micaville, and turn left on NC80 South for Mt Mitchell, and use the rest of the other directions from there.

So there we are, and here we are, and we're waiting for you to come to us. We have two kegs of home brew from some local excellent brewers, and food and fun for all! Let's do this thing! Peace.

Spring Fling Notification!
Greetings, fellow Bovines! As we approach SF with antici-------pation, just a few thoughts about logistics. We've got enough flat parking for a couple of pop-up campers, and electric available for that area. For most of the tents, they will be up the hill, and will not have electric, but will have creek water in a hose. Which is good, 'cause you have a small firering there too. There might be room for a couple of extra tents in Z-town, depending. Cars will parked in a line on the new road, and unable to move until we back the whole line out, but we should have enough room. The Shanty has a couple of couches and big chairs to curl up on, and some floor space for bedding, but make your reservations for the floor space now please. And if we could get an idea of how many will be coming it would help. The creek will be cold, but the Prez sez bring your creek shoes anyway. I say hiking boots will serve you better, but what do I know? There are a couple of excellent 1hr walks up the ridge from here, if anyone would like to go. I guess that's it; Looking forward to the company! Peace.

Well, last weekend I got to ride. A lot. My first back-to-back road trip, and it was awesome! The weather was excellent (mostly, one good shower), and Saturday K-Ox and I headed North, through Boone and beyond. Sunday Pete joined us and we went West through Hot Springs to Asheville. I could learn to like this stuff if I'm not carefull. When we can get a couple more riders in the pack, it's gonna be geting pretty close to Nirvana (the place not the band). It's amazing how many different ways there are to get from A to B! So many roads, so little time....but we'll see more of them than most, on the roads less traveled by.

Beer Explained
Sometimes when I reflect on all the beer I drink, I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. I think, "It is better to drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver."
-- Babe Ruth

An intelligent man is sometimes forced to be drunk to spend time with his fools.
-- Ernest Hemingway

When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.
-- Paul Hornung

24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence? I think not.
-- H.L. Mencken

When we drink, we get drunk. When we get drunk, we fall asleep. When we fall asleep, we commit no sin. When we commit no sin, we go to heaven. So, let's all get drunk and go to heaven!
-- George Bernard Shaw

Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.
-- Benjamin Franklin

Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the
wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza.
-- Dave Barry

Beer: helping ugly people have sex since 3000 b.c.
-- W.C. Fields

Remember "I" before "E", except in Budweiser.
-- Professor Irwin Corey

To some it's a six-pack, to me it's a "support group."
Salvation in a can!
-- Leo Durocher

One night at Cheers, Cliff Clavin explained the "Buffalo Theory" to his buddy, Norm. "Well ya see, Norm, it's like this. A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine! That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

Recommend a book...
driftwood30062 just reminded me of a great book I hadn't thought of in years... "The Drawing of the Dark" by Tim Powers. Without giving it away, it does concern World Peace through drinking beer. Anybody have any other beer or oxen-related books they want to push?

Spring Fling! (Posting for RayneQueen, the 4BA)
Hope everyone has remembered to mark their calendar for April 29th for Spring Fling. We have several events coming up in the next few months and it'll really help to get the event calendar posted. Is the online event calendar available for everyone to post events on, or do we send the info to K-OX to post it?

As far as Spring Fling, we are planning a rocking good time, great music (surprize appearance planned), great food (covered side dishes really appreciated), awesome friends (that's you)! We have plenty of camping space available, thanks to the efforts of TPB, MongoOx, K-OX and pledge Pete and their clearing capabilities. We've cleared a great large spot up the hill complete with fire ring.

The house has limited floor space for blow up mattresses, a couch and big chair for sleeping. Of course the shower and flushing toilet are a plus, too. We'll put another port-a-john up the hill. The big fire ring is ready to go, too.

Bring your camping gear, and good shoes for hiking as there are great trails and spectacular views to be seen. We'll have the horseshoe pits and hopefully the archery range ready, too.

Suggestions for HH's LiveJournal username
HH is searching for a name to join LiveJournal under. It irritates him unspeakably that he can not have capital letters in his user name. We are currently seeking a compromise that will preserve his dignity and overall air of aplomb. I personally suggested "ho_daddy" but that doesn't quite cut it. TTW says how about "his_holisticness" ? Post your suggestions here!
