Muse-On Monday
Feb. 28th, 2022 12:10 pmYes, this is a bad pun on mouseion, the Greek concept of a “Seat of the Muses” (which designated a place of contemplation or philosophical discussion), and "get your Muse on" for being, y'know, actually creative.
Here's a quick run-down if you want to find out which Muse to call on for your writing.
Anyway, I had this idea when I counted all the books on writing I had amassed over the years, and found out to my shock and surprise that I have 156 physical, and 130 ebooks on that topic. That's 286 books on writing, or in other words, I'm frickin' insane!
Okay, but I only really used about a dozen of them; the others are just sitting there, gathering dust (or, in the case of ebooks, virtual dust). So I decided that I'll go through my collection, book by book, in the random order that I chucked them into the shelves at some point, and write a summary, extract the most useful information (highly subjective, of course), and if there are writing exercises in it, do them (or at least a sample of them, if there are too many, because if I do every exercise from almost 300 books, I'll be here for... a long time).
If you want to, you can join me! Either do your own version of Muse-On Monday on your blog, or comment on my ramblings, or do the exercises for yourself that I post here. The more, the merrier. And it doesn't have to be writing books - if you have recs for drawing books or videos, or any other art or craft, really, they all belong to the Muses. And since I'm compulsively collecting resources, you'll likely inspire me to buy even more books!
