Badger-soft is an amateur games company created in 2003 to build and run simple fun games using, at the time, BlitzMax and eventually C++
We started off with some low level games, the most popular at the time was 'Sniper Frogs' a 2d Shooter, which for some reason seemed to receive quite a lot of followers.
The games were written primarily to test my ability to do so, and then because I enjoyed building the sort of games I wanted to play (management simulations being a real favourite).
After years in the wilderness I decided now is the time to move forward, and so taking most of my old code and resources I have moved over to Godot and started to updated and restart a lot of my long lost projects.
Sniper Frogs was the first to get the full makeover, it still keeps its feel of a 2d Low Res shooter but now a little more 'thought' has gone into the feel and levels.
I have also remade a simple 2d Dogfighting game, Aces, and brought it up to date.
I am hoping that this small account on ITCH can help me get some of my games out to the public, I am not expecting anyone to like, or even probably play, these games but even one of two comments 'positive or constructive' will be worthwhile. My time is limited, but I am hoping to keep the more popular of these games 'alive' and updated as much as I can, feedback helps of course.
In terms of the widespread use of AI, I am definately sitting on the fence right now.
I see its value, and indeed it helped me with a few issues with my migration.
I am also a terrible artist, most of my games are pretty low rest simplistic sprite type graphics, and whilst if I had the funds I would absolutely go and find some amazing Compute Graphics artists its not viable at all right now, and so there have been times I have asked AI to create me some background Art so my games aren't totally off-putting.
Coding wise, I ask for advice when I am stuck with choices (should I code this using this or that...) and its generally accurate in the advice it returns, and I also look for ways to minimise the size of my payloads, so quite often will ask it to identify any commands I could shorten or steps I am duplicating that could be merged.
I think as long as people are open and honest about what they use it for and where then people, whilst not necessarily agreeing with the use, can at least have an informed discussion.
Overuse of AI is probably Lazy, or some may say Cheating - but if you are creating games for your own benefit, and to prove you can, then its your call how much you want to rely on something other than your own design instincts, so I am not going to put anyone down in that respect.
