I was wondering, seeing is marching season is coming to a close, and I have spent the last 3 months watching Band Couples getting it on in the back of the bus, I pose this question:

Inner- Band dating is it cool? Yes or No, please explain why.

Voila, my high school band [09 Nov 2004|03:22pm]

Okay, well, at least the senior class. It's really sad because so many people dropped band between grade 11 and 12 so there's only 20 of us....boohoo.

Flutes: Believe it or not, they're all Korean. All of them!!! NINE KOREAN GIRLS!! The largest section by far and very easily entertained. Somebody drops their folder and the entire section is in hysterics. But all in all, when they're not giggling, they're all very sweet. :)

Clarinets: Quiet. There are 3 and they are either in really good tune or there's a lot of faking happening. Amazingly enough, although they sit right next to the conductor, they seem to be invisible to him. Trippy.

Saxophones: Talented but obnoxious......or entirely absent. They are probably the best musicians out of all of us, but without any social graces. With the exception of our tenor, he rocks.

Trumpets: The friendliest guys you'll ever meet, and the loudest. One of them is my co-conductor for the musical and he's a grade-A goofball. But perhaps I shouldn't say anything because I was in love with him for the better part of two years.

French Horn: Just me. One of the conductors favourites...but I piss him off occasionally, hey, nobody's perfect. I can't sightread for beans either....

Trombone: Very cool guy. Yes, there's just the one...but he makes up for it in volume. Yay.

Bass Guitar & Drummer: They're pretty much the same person, they're cool, but obviously not as much as they think they are.

Well, that's it...and in no way do any of these apply to other musicians, just my band....although I have noticed that trend with the flutes...j/k.

Introductions [01 Nov 2004|04:18pm]

[ mood | pleased ]

Id like to introduce my band to everyone cause I love them all so much and im sure you would too if you knew them (or if u spent as much time with them as I do).So Ill start and just so you know theyre are about 80 sumthin ppl in my band so Im describing them by sections in marching band:

Flutes: Pretty much all girls except for like 3 boys and theyre all bubbly and happy and small and kinda dorky together theyre annoying but individual theyre pretty nice.

Clarinets: The most stuck up section. All generally good looking (especially Kevin). They nice when you get to know them and all in all we all get along and defenetly the section that works the hardest (with little result though).

Saxaphones: Worst marchers, mostly newbies, mostly kinda lost all the time but no touble makers there the least popular marching section since they as a whole arent too much fun but I love em just the same.

Low Brass Section: they know how to have fun, generally hang out with other brass players and defenetly the best sidekicks for any occasion

Trumpets: Swear theyre the best but in a fun way and they loud and fun and really should learn what a triangle looks like lol.

Contras(Tubas): My section the best section in the world. Im the only girl and my section members kevin alejandro and matt are like my brothers and they rock although like real brother just as annoying.

Percussion: The funnest and best looking section mostly really good looking guys and sure maybe theyre not the best drun line in the world but without them the bus ride would be such a bore.

Well thats my band and maybe I didnt discribe them as accurately as someone else might but no matter how much I write I never do theyre awesomeness justice.

I came up with a band story. It sucks, but it's really funny.

I had a bad ear infection, and then went to all-eastern.
I became partially deaf in one ear due to the pressure that my ear was under thanks to sitting next to the piccolo player.

It's almost like a impairment that shows how hardcore of a musician I am. HAHA.

Note to fellow band geeks: Attempting to play My Heart Will Go On while having The Distillers - City Of Angels stuck in your head is a sure fire way to give yourself a headache.
Because I'm bored, I'm going to introduce the rest of my band, secretly, so they can't beat me up.

Now, introduce yours (if you want)

i got my first score EVER. that makes me happy. it's to david gillingham's "Heroes, Lost and Fallen". if you've never heard of the piece, you need to go listen to it and read up on the story behind it. it's SO interesting, really!

WOOOOOHOOOO!!! Finally my score has arrived!! First rehearsal was yesterday, it was awesome. The only thing is...the score is layed out in a really stupid way, there's two bars to a page so I'll be flipping the pages fast enough to cut myself. No wait, I already did that.
Despite the paper cuts, it's going to be an awesome show, by this I mean "Back to the Eighties - the Totally Awesome Musical". If you're going to be in the Toronto area (that's Toronto, Ontario) between December 1st and 4th, I recommend you grab some tickets. This is going to be the first ever performance in North America...until now it was done only in Australia.
Awrite then, as doubtful as I am that anybody would actually make it to the show...thought I would mention it.

Basics
Name: ClaireMarie

Age: 16

Location: LA, CA, USA

Sex: F

Hobbies: Band, Reading, Writing, did I say Band?, Movies and Jazz Band

The Band Stuff

Instrument(s)? Alto Sax, Bari Sax, Piano, Snare

Years played? Alto-4, Bari-2,Piano-10 and Snare-1

What bands are you in (marching, concert, ensemble etc)? Marching, Jazz, Concert

What chair are you? Marching -1st Bari (out of 4), Jazz- Only Bari(I did beat out two boys mind you), and Concert -1st Bari

Ever gone to band camp? 3 years running

Tell me a good band story (if you have one). At band camp, all the marching techs were working with the clarinets, because there are like 30 of them and most were freshman. This year I happened to be marching Bari and I was standing next to my friend who plays baritone and we got in to this weird conversation about butt plugs. So in the middle of the conversation our band director was like “ That is great you guys do that and all, but can we please work on drill?” I had to do like 50 push-ups.

What makes you so much more band geeky than the other band geeks? I am the only girl in the history of the school to ever play Bari Sax, I play in all 4 of the schools groups and I am a section leader

What do you want to accomplish with your music? If anything, I want to be a music history teacher in a university in
England.

Favorite Key? Why? Umm… B flat. Did I answer that right? This is a kind of weird question. And I like it because it’s the one I play in the most.

Favorite Composer? Why? Hans Zimmermann and John Williams because I am big on movie sound tracks.

Favorite Song to Play?
Africa by Robert Smith

Favorite Song to Listen To? At the moment “Famme like u”
