New to Bhakail [03 Jun 2009|08:58am]

sitpadeshu
Hello Everyone!

I am known as Lady Sitpadeshu (Sita for short). I currently reside in An Tir, but I'm relocating with my husband to your Barony in a few weeks (I will be going to grad school at Philadelphia University and my husband is a college teacher). I wanted to introduce myself and hopefully "meet" a few people before arriving. :)
I've been playing in the SCA for about 6 years off and on. I'm heavily involved in 16th century costuming (including embroidery, lacemaking, and 16th century knitting) and want to work more on illumination. My husband is new to the SCA, but has an interest in metal forge work, calligraphy, heavy fighting, and brewing. :)

We are looking forward to meeting new people and getting as involved as possible! :)

Regards,
Sita (aka Christina)

help! clothes donation? [12 Apr 2009|09:06pm]

fabricdragon
this isnt scadian at all, but
a friend's mom passed away last week and she is trying to find homes for many many items of clothing.
much of it unworn with tags, including vintage from 60's as well as modern.
much of it suitable for work. some wool suits, LL bean, etc
sizes ranging from 10-16.

i cant locate the local contacts for any of the business clothes for women groups. or the battered women's shelters everyone tells me need clothing donations.

so.... if YOU need clothes, or you know a contact number for a shelter that will take it, or etc.. please comment or contact me.

spinning related sales post [09 Apr 2009|05:48pm]

fabricdragon
hi all,
as most of you know i am a merchant (resounding cries of "well duh!" optional)
i have carried Louet products for some time (including their spinning wheels) but recently was persuaded to start carrying the Babe spinning wheels also.
if you are interested in this there is a sales post with prices % off etc on my LJ at fabricdragon
while the babe spinning wheels are not normally very period looking, they  can be made more so by a suitable application of Krylon plastic Fusion paints, and the black ones are certainly less obtrusive.
of course, given pennsic and other events, a wheel that can be covered in mud, hosed off, and still spin is a *good thing* tm

the reason this is bhakail specific is that if you are in or near Philadelphia, i can deliver this to you with no shipping.....

1rst Year Anniversary [08 Oct 2008|11:26am]

momtoast
It's hard to believe its only been a year since I've been active in the SCA. At least in the East. I dabbled a bit in Atlantia a few years ago, but now I've been able to get much more involved. I've met lots of great friends, and learned tons, and generally had a good time. If anyone cares to celebrate with me, I'm heading to the event that began things up here, Sundered Shields and Masked Measures in a couple weeks.

I'm mostly excited cuz I get to dance. In my awesome velvet gown.

We will be having a masked ball, an Arts & Sciences competition to select the new Baronial Champion, an Arts & Sciences competition for youths, and a subtlety competition for period & non-period entries.  Feel free to bring a mask for the masked ball, but we will be supplying mask-making supplies so you can make your own that day.  Children are also welcome to come and make a mask.

There will be an auction to support Toys for Tots.  We are asking for donations of items to be auctioned.  Raffle tickets will be available at Troll.  The donations of a new, unwrapped toy will get you 2 raffle tickets, other tickets are 1 for $1, 6 for $5.  All proceeds will be going to Toys for Tots.

Merchants are welcome on a first-come, first-serve basis and will need to provide their own tables.  Contact the autocrat to let us know you’re coming and the amount of space you will need.

Shameless Event Plug: Bhakail Champions & Fall Commons [16 Sep 2008|10:43am]

astarvingsinger

Sorry about the cross posting, and please feel free to forward!

The Barony of Bhakail will be hosting an event to select its new Champions in Heavy Combat, Fencing, and Brewing on Saturday, October 4th, 2008!  Come out for a relaxed day, as we join in celebration of the fall harvest season.  Our new Baron & Baroness will be in search for successors to the current champions, and three tourneys will provide spectacle for the day.  There’s also plenty of space in the hall (and outside!) to bring along your favorite A&S activity to share with others!

The Champions will shortly have announcements out as to the formats of their tournaments.

The event is fast approaching, and will be held at the Community Masonic Lodge in Broomall, PA.  We’ll be having a potluck dayboard, and we’re asking everyone to bring a dish suitable to feed 6-10 people.  E-mail bhakailpotluck@gmail.com for more information, or to let us know what you’ll be bringing!

More information is located on the EK Website at http://www.eastkingdom.org/event-detail.html?eid=1685

There aren't very many. But at least I remembered to ask someone to take pictures of me. So many of my travel pictures are pictures of everything but me. So here there are:

Pennsic Pictures

Overall I had a great first Pennsic. I didn't get sick, my tent didn't fall down or leak, I made some great friends, and we even had fantastic weather most of the time. Thanks to everyone who helped make my first Pennsic loverly!

1. My name and arms passed Kingdom Inspection! yay! Now on to SCA approval. Which I hear takes forever. Ah well, I'm happy anyway. So now it's my user pic. Hee!

2. I finally got Hispanic Costume: 1480-1530 by Ruth Anderson. I love it! I already want to make like six different things in there. Hopefully I will remember to post pictures of them all.

Baron Master Joram Goldspoons [14 Dec 2006|03:10am]

[ mood | sad ]

Forwarded from Mistress Asenath:

Baron Master Joram Goldspoons passed from this world at 3:35am this morning
(Wednesday December 13). While he put up a valiant fight for his life, it was
not to be, and at least his suffering is now ended. May he rest in peace at
last. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. There will be no
services, at his request.

Thanks once again for keeping him in thoughts and prayers for all of this
past year.

We will continue to give support to his mother until she can arrange to
relocate back to PA, and any help will be hugely appreciated. With his blessing,
we will be selling some of his SCA stuff to raise money for her (at Birka and
possibly other events).

To honor Joram's memory, we have ideas for a website, a recipe book, an event
at some point to celebrate and remember his life and our friendships, and
even for a cooking competition event in the future. If you have ideas, photos,
or recipes to share, or want to help in some way, please email me at
GEastokes@aol.com. Thanks again for all the support and compassion you have
shown, that has reminded me of why I am so proud to be a member of this group!

---Baroness Mistress Asenath Chamberly of Morrismount

P.S. PLease forward this message to other lists and/or individuals as you see
fit, particularly to the Laurel and the Cooks' Guild lists. Thanks, and my
apologies, as always, for cross-posting.

sad news [16 Oct 2006|08:35pm]

I just found out that Baron Sir Tristen Von Halstern, mundanely known as John McLoughlin passed away on Thursday last.
I do not yet know any details.
The society is once again poorer for the loss of one of our own, and richer for having known him.

Historical ramblings [24 Aug 2005|04:30pm]
blktauna
[ mood | nostalgic ]

Greetings All,

I was noticing a dearth of historical information on the Bhakail site and was wondering if there might be a Bhakaili historian or two that would like to get a history compiled and up.

Bhakail has a long and glorious history and it just struck me in my search today, that nothing is on-line about the Peace, Bishop Geoffrey's Melee Tourney, old Yule Revels, or even a listing of our Barons/esses, notable dates or Salamander Recipients...

The chronicler should have old Salamanders, or perhaps some old timers could be solicited for theirs. That would be a good start.
