"...on my tomb,
Where the red roses wake and break and bloom,
The stars gaze down eternal and austere."

Today is the 64th anniversary of Bosie's death.
May he rest in peace.

"The hunter's cry wounds the deep darkness." Let's pretend the silence here is darkness and I am the hunter.. I am travelling to Scotland soon to feel some Bosie atmosphere. Anyone got ideas what to visit in Ayrshire and in Edinburgh? I am currently looking for libraries and bookshops. I saw Drumlanrig Castle is closed already but I hope to see some Douglas-related site. Thanks in advance for suggestions if somebody just comes in, take care, big crowd in the community :)

Nobody here. "Daily our hope is born and daily dies." [19 May 2008|08:34pm]

Not that I mind the "immortal loneliness" and "infinite distress"  of having been left totally alone in this community, but....
...maybe anyone got an idea where to read "Poems" (1896) online or where to order it at a reasonable price?

"I am near drowned in this unhappy sea,
I will not strive, let me lie still and sink,
I have no joy to live."

Bosie may say that if he could see this community dying out... I have just discovered all this story with Bosie and Oscar and I am fascinated by Bosie's poems, though I do not have many of them yet. Come back, everybody...

Blast From the Past!!! [07 Jan 2007|01:51am]

I started this community when I was even more ignorant than I am now.
I thought I'd deleted it, and was very surprised to know I hadn't - so hurray!
So perhaps this died out attempt at celebrating Bosie has been rather pale, especially when compared to the shrine to that other scribbler, Oscar Wilde.
Poetic Justice, anyone?
Anyway, is anyone interested in deciding what is to be done with this token bereft shrine?
Should we -
1. Let it lie half - forgotten and almost placid, much like Monsieur Douglas himself?
2. Fight for justice to be done to Monsieur Bosie, still called "minor poet"?
3. Delete it because it does not gratify Bosie's need for attention?
4. Delete it because it occupies space on our User Info page?
5. Delete it cause we've got nothi9ng better to do?
Let me see if I can fix up a poll - otherwise, old fashioned comment voting I guess!

Ah, a community after my own heart. Pity about the minimum of members but doubtless we can generate some discussion;

1. Anyone read Bosie's autobiography? It's been a while since I have, but at the time my impression was one of staid middle-age and - though I hate to say it - a bit dull. What with the beautiful poetry and the passionate letters, I'd imagined him more fiery, I suppose. Thoughts?

Read any other Douglas books - Summing Up, Without Apology, etc - opinions?

2. Seen this website - Quite interesting: http://www.geocities.com/starparty1/bosie/

3. In respect to the community's title, what's your favourite bosie!poem?

4. And, if you've read De Profundis, a favourite line from that?
