Thank You
I just want to repeat again how fantastic everyone who played or helped out on Camel in Summer is! I had a great time, and I hope you did too.

As soon as we clean up the mess left after the celebrations around the royal wedding of Princess Waliyah and her husband, Prince Jawad of Gujarat, I'll start posting books on the website so you can all (regardless of whether you speak Arabic or Monkey) get a look at what those university scholars were so excited about. Expect it later in the week.

If you have anything else you'd like to see, drop a comment here.

Thank you again for participating and breathing life into Farzabad.

See you all tomorrow!

I see that it's going to be quite warm. (Especially coming from my current 68 degree place.) Fortunately, I'm sure our Oasis will have vast quantities of Cool Water, while I wish my costume was cooler. Well, temperature wise, anyway.

I suppose it really fits the setting to be getting to play in the Angry Sun. Aren't we all lucky.

Marhaba!
Joy of joys! Does the sun shine just a little brighter this morning? Does the song of the birds seem just a little sweeter? Perhaps it is because today I received news from the Masters of the Game; perhaps it is because today I am officially putting on my fez and standing before you all as Basharat, owner of the Blue Parrot here in the bustling and yet still welcoming Farzabad bazaar. I look forward to seeing you all this weekend, and if there are some who perhaps have personal matters to discuss before this weekend, please leave me a note at cyrano@nog.net

Assalmu Alaykum and ma-atakallam arabi.

Sparkly Shoes!
If anybody hasn't got shoes yet that they like, Marshall's in Mountain View (on Grant Road, near 85/El Camino) surprisingly has a fair number of authentic indian shoes covered in beadwork and sequins in their women's shoe section. They look a bit like these:

http://www.786shop.com/search_result.asp?Category=khussa-L

There were several in each whole size from women's 6 to 10, so a smaller footed man might fit into them well, too. I saw pink, red, gold, blue, lavender, purple and orange. The sizes don't appear to be exact (I tried on all five pairs of size 10's, and some fit me better than others) so try them on before you buy them. The best part? They're only $20/pair!

This is a reminder that our "Oh No! The LARP is Only a Week Away and I Still Don't Have My Costume Together" Workshop is happening today at 1pm at the game site. I'll see some of you there!

Costuming Workshop, part two
This Sunday, July 10th, we'll be having a last minute costume workshop starting at 1pm. We've got bits to loan and ideas on quick, low cost, last minute costuming. If you need directions to the site, please email the costume alias camelcostumes@goblinrevolution.org. If you don't have all your costume together, it might be worth it to drop by, even for just a few minutes, and see if we can loan you that last finishing touch.

Last Call: Player Signups
To repeat the contents of the email most of you should be getting, this Friday, July 1st, is the signup deadline for the Camel in Summer. If you know anybody who is interested in playing, they've only got the rest of the week to make up their minds and send us a questionnaire or money (preferably both.)

Speaking of money, a big squishy thank you goes out to all of our players who have paid us already. (That's nearly everybody.) I'm sure you'll appreciate it, come game day, when you see the fantastic sets and props we've got for you, not to mention the food. It's going to be great.

I'm really excited. I hope you all are, too. We'll post a complete cast list on the web site, probably early next week. And, as always, if you have any questions, please feel free to email us at camelinsummer at goblinrevolution.org.

Casting, round two
The second round of casting went out today. If you've sent a player questionnaire and have not yet heard your casting, please drop us a line, either commenting here or sending email to camelinsummer at goblinrevolution dot org. Also, if you've seen your character assignment and you'd like to talk about it for whatever reason, please feel free to email us.

As of today we have 27 players, and a 28th insisting we'll get a player questionnaire any minute now. Player signup closes July 1st, so if you have friends who were intending to sign up, remind them they've only got until next Friday.

We've been working on elements of the set. I really think we've got something special here. I'm looking forward to seeing you all on game day!

Crocheted hat
esmerel and merlinofchaos were asking me about cap options. I couldn't find a good link to a pattern, but a certain kind of crocheted hat is very appropriate for men in this game. It looks like this:

Costume Workshop
We've sent out the first round of casting. If anybody is interested in attending Saturday's costume workshop, let us know quickly. If we don't hear any interest, we'll cancel it and give our lovely costume wranglers the day free.

If you haven't been cast yet, expect a notice in the next week or so.

Camel in Summer Price Hike
On June 10th the price for Camel in Summer goes up from $25 to $35 a person. We will be accepting applications until July 1st or until we have 35 signups, whichever comes first. After that, the game is closed to new players. Remind your friends, or if you are one of the three people reading this community who haven't signed up, sign up now!

Most (but not all!) of the members of this community have sent in their questionnaires. However, we would urge you to please get your payment in before the price hike, to make our bookkeeping easier.

Weekend Housing requested
I'm going to fly down and play in Camel in Summer! (And boy, will my arms be tired.)

I'm getting in to SJC, at 10:44 pm on Friday, July 15th. I'm not leaving again until Sunday, July 17th, at 9:33 pm out of SJC.

I'd appreciate transportation to and from the airport, a place to sleep Friday and Saturday night, and transportation to and from the game itself. I could get a hotel, but half the fun in coming down is to spend some time with people, and hiding in a hotel room kind of misses the point.

See you all in a month and a half!

Updates and Poking You With a Stick
The Camel in Summer website has been updated with a short page on Setting, History and Background. You can see it here:
http://www.goblinrevolution.org/camel/setting.html

Also, if you're seeing this, it means you're a member of or watching this fine LJ community. If you haven't sent us a questionnaire and/or money yet... why not? As soon as we get our first 15 signups, we'll start casting. The sooner you're cast, the more time you have to get a fine and dandy costume together. So, act now! Pester your friends! We want to see you (yes, you!) turned out well on game day.

Welcome to the Camel in Summer Community
About a year and a half ago, The Bear in Winter played out in the Lower Social Hall of the Mountain View Community Center. The story centered around a zeppelin trip aboard the Admiral Nakhimov, in an 1899 this world never saw. The production staff had such fun with it, we've decided to organize another larp, but instead of the cold Russian winter, this one is set during a hot Arabian summer in a time of myth and legend.

Two weeks before the Bear in Winter, cyranocyrano created The Bear in Winter LJ Community and the production staff all thought, "Ah! What a grand idea. I wish we'd thought of it."

This time, we did. Welcome to the Camel in Summer lj community! You can also find more information on The Camel in Summer at http://www.goblinrevolution.org/camel.
