If anyone tried replying to my intro message this morning, and couldn't, it's because I had it set to only allow "friends" on my friends list to comment :)
I fixed it now :o)

Heya!! :):):)
Okay, so here I go - I'm about to ramble! LOL! :P
I just joined a few minutes ago and thought I'd introduce myself before I forget! lol I'm a CEGEP student at Dawson College, studying Languages. I'm 21, female and absolutely off-the-wall crazy! LOL! Except crazy is such a harsh word: I prefer mentally unhinged LOL! j/k

I'm still figuring out for sure what I'd like to study once I'd graduate. My interests lie in psychology, education, journalism and human rights :) I really like to learn, but really need to get a grip on procrastination tendencies!

I am into advocacy, feminism, human rights, shopping (who isn't? lol), religion and etc - I've done a lot of advocacy regarding guide dog access rights among other things :) But I'm not just about intellect - love having a great time with friends to! My experience at CEGEP has been mostly positive and I'm hoping to meet others through this community!

Where will you find me? Keeping the second cups of Montreal in business! Love my caffine! LOL!

I'm hoping to meet some interesting, fun and friendly people here, so comment please! :)

Vanier. [04 Feb 2005|01:38pm]

Hey. My name is Zarie and I'm in the Communications program at Vanier College. If you go there and you don't know me, odds are you've probably seen me around because I tend to stick out in a crowd because of how I look/dress. I went to Pierrefonds Comprehensive High School and graduated there in 2003. I look a lot different from how I looked in high school (I was a total geek), so odds are you probably wouldn't be able to recognize me if you went to P.C. and saw me. I hated high school with a passion because I never fit in anywhere, but I'd have to say college is a lot more interesting. What else? I live in Pierrefonds in the West Island. My second home is in downtown Montreal around the Westmount area. I'm 18. And that's me in my user picture in case you're wondering if you know me.

Vanier college is fairly alright, but I wish I had the time to go to Dawson college. I hear it's more diverse there and there's a lot less ignorance. Most of my friends from high school went there, but waking up even earlier in the morning to go to school would have been even more of a hassle. If only I lived closer. =\

I'm a progressional band photographer and graphics designer studying at Vanier. Photography, listening to music, drinking, and graphics design are probably 4 of the things I like doing best. So yeah, I'd like to meet other people from Vanier, and other cegeps too.

A Very Simple Introduction [25 Jan 2005|10:05pm]

Hi there, I'm Alex. It's my second semester at John Abbott. I haven't seen posts from JAC students but, if so, I'll be very glad to talk, as I don't have RL friends on lj. And I've had mine for something like a year.

Umm, so. I'm actually French. Thought it would be brill if I went to JAC because it's the college closest to my house that offers my programme (I'm in PDHT... that's Publication Design & Hypermedia Technology). Otherwise I'd have had to go to Vieux-Montréal, and I didn't feel like traveling four hours a day. Two is plenty enough :P I used to go L'École Secondaire Des Sources in DDO. Didn't exactly love it. I've always been sort of a wallflower... don't really hang out with the kewl kids, never did.

I have many hobbies. My topmost favourite is writing. I fic. I dig. Harry Potter, basically. It ain't kid stuff, I tell you ;D I love designing, too, obviously.
And... I guess that's it. I tend to ramble ;P
It's great that someone thought to create a community like this. Kind of lets us college kids reach out to the 'other' kids :D

( In Français...Collapse )

Basketball? [23 Aug 2004|12:58pm]

thespia04
Hi :-) ( non cegep related, I'm sorry in advance if it is not permitted )

I'm a 23 yr old history major at UQAM. I am startinga basketball team for this year and am recruiting girls 17 and up for a senior league.
Knowing by experience, a lot of girls played Bball in high shcool but didnt pursue the game into the collegiate level. Either they didnt want to,
didnt like the pressure, didnt feel good enough, werent chosen or simply didnt have time to! I, myself decided not to go the training camp
at Collège de Maisonneuve when I attended school there... I soon realized I missed the game though and went from garage league to
garage league without ever finding a good, serious yet fun oriented team!

Thats why I decided to start and coach one. This is for the girls who miss the game and love it. No pressure and fun in a competitive environement.
My goal is to plan tournaments around and out of Quebec and to simply kick some arse in the league!!!

This team will not look for "stars". Girls will look to improve and evolve in their own time, I've coached a team before... the goal isnt to come to
the training camp like an nba star but to be the best you could be finishing the season... So any level is invited!

We play street basketball for the moment as girls join the practices and the final training camp is only in September... We play twice a week downtown Montreal ( close to UQAM ) We have only one rule for pple interested in this venture : No discrimination whatsoever will be tolerated... We accept and are accepted... from then on.. we have fun and play ball! :-)

if anyone is interested email "Mil" at thespia@hotmail.com

From what Ive seen,I think this community is mostly anglophone... are there many francophones here? If so I'll post a french version...

thank you! :-)

arts & sciences [15 Aug 2004|10:53pm]

What does everybody think about the new Arts & Sciences program at Marianopolis? It seems like a good program, especially for those who, like me, tend to often change their minds about what they want to do later on, and I'm just wondering.

Hey everyone, just thought I'd say hi. I was directed here by my friend "X", and I'm glad there's some kind of a cegep community. I'm going into my second year at Marianopolis in Liberal Arts and I hope to run into some of you who are planning on going there this year!

College Expenses [14 Jul 2004|08:55am]

aintmagicgrand
[ mood | irritated ]

I just got my bill. The bill in which they put all my expenses for the first semester at Brébeuf. And, can I say, what the hell?! So damn expensive. And it wasn't even written that it would be this much, but anyways.

Also, they sent me a pamphlet offering all the menus of every day during the semester and a lunch card that you could buy and would be paid all those lunches in advance (A swipe card, if you must. So totally Gilmore Girls.). It comes to about 5,45$/meal. And they do offer good meals. The menu is huge. With 3 selections per day, one international menu, one vegetarian menu, an entree (salad or soup, different types) and 2 different deserts. I guess it's decent enough. I ate a hot meal every day for 12 years (only one choice), so I guess it would be worth it...but damn. So much money. And they want it all right now.

One thing I'm happy about is we're going to have an agenda, a student card, and a chance to use the computers whenever we want. Of course, all of that has a fee too. But I never got any of those growing up and I'm just...happy. I can't wait to start college.

Eh, it's a private college and I'm going to have to deal with it. The money problems, I mean. Actually, I'm lying. My parents will have to deal with it. I'll just help (working in the summer helped a great deal).

Looking for participants [06 Jul 2004|01:32am]

parodie
(This is not quite about Cegeps - if this is a problem, I can remove this post.)

Are you an anglophone montrealer (born & raised in Montreal) with parents born in Canada? Are you in any of the following age groups: 12-15, 19-25, 40-55, 65+?

I'm looking for people to participate in a linguistics study on Canadian English and how it compares to other varieties of English (e.g. American English). The study involves one interview and takes about 45 minutes. You will be compensated 10$ for your time.

If you or anyone you know qualifies and is interested in participating, please email phonology_study@yahoo.ca with your name and a phone number, and you will be contacted. Please distribute this widely - the study will run until the end of August 2004, and many, many participants are needed.

(Participants under 18 will need a signed consent form from a parent/guardian.)

This study is being run by Prof. Heather Goad of the McGill Linguistics department (heather.goad@mcgill.ca, (514) 398-4223).

(appologies for cross-posting)

Hello! My name's Sara and I'm just about to enter my first year of cegep. I'm going to Brébeuf....and, don't tell me it's snobbish and full of competition...I'm sure it'll still be fun and much better than high school. A better environment. I'm very nervous too. But, anyways, I hope many people find this community and post their anecdotes and experiences.
