Daisy Days
Wondering what to wish for this holiday season? We suggest getting some copies of Planting Seeds Records' benefit release "Blue Skies and Daisy Days," which not only contains an exclusive track from our new album ("Stonewords") but also a veritable smorgasbord of other Mystery Lawn notables, such as The Fairwood Singers, The Incredible Vickers Brothers and The Ocean Blue. Plus other stuff like Jesus and Mary Chain people. Plus, it's for a good cause. Proceeds benefit a breast-cancer awareness nonprofit. A Myspace page has just been set up: http://www.myspace.com/blueskiesdaisydayscompYou can also pre-order it here: http://www.darla.com/comingSoon/ | | Friday, June 13th, 2008 | 10:09 am [goldenmoonbear]

myspace stuff
yesterday i added a little zazzle store widget to the myspace page. there are some shirts on there now (babydoll TOL, mens TOL, babydoll hummingbird, Pigeon) but there is oh so much more i could add, including stickers, postcards, magnets, calendars and even aprons. (rock out while you're cookin'.) so, if there's something you'd really like to see on there, like mini pigeon stickers or a TOL poster or some Ultraviolet Garden postcards, just let me know! i also cleaned up the HTML on the "About" section on the myspace. that little widget ("powered by SNOCAP") isn't working and i wonder if i should just delete it altogether because i can't get it to work and the music player at the top of the page seems to work just fine. but if you want to keep it there, that's cool, too. just let me know if you want me to delete it! charlie's working on getting the videos on the page. hopefully they will work! | | Thursday, December 6th, 2007 | 8:41 am [goldenmoonbear]

tomb of leopards t-shirt
by special request: TOL shirt on Zazzle!i wasn't sure if you guys wanted it to just be the album front and back, but it was a pretty easy solution since i already had the art. all the song titles and credits are on the back. i'm not sure if they will be completely readable but i think they will be. oh, and dig that model guy's pose. that was cracking me up! :) Edit: here's a version with the plain (no song titles/credits) design on the back. | | Friday, October 5th, 2007 | 9:48 am [annarama]

first try on 'Ultraviolet Garden' art
so, here it is. take #1 on the album artwork for Ultraviolet Garden... first: i know the colors are WAY too girlie. goldenmoonbear and i discussed changing them to dark violet or dark blue and deep red instead of pink and purple. so i will try doing that. second: there are still more tweaks i want to make (make the banner and text larger, enlarge the border, etc.) so i'm going to do that, too. this is just a starting-off point! | | Wednesday, July 25th, 2007 | 9:45 am [zimbra1006]

band meeting
So what are we doing for this show on Saturday? Songwise, instrumentwise, etc... Also, how long is our set? And do you think practice and prep on Friday night is enough or should I come down earlier? | | Monday, July 16th, 2007 | 1:48 pm [countblastula]

I'm the one who wears the pants.
The time has come to discuss tedious LA travel plans. Obviously we should rent a Prius, but how? I think it would make the most sense for zimbra1006 to rent one in San Francisco and then pick the rest of us up. I'm hoping Karla and I will be able to leave early Friday afternoon so we can make it to LA before dark. I assume Brian James has his own plans? Also Aaron emailed me this morning asking about LA. I'm going to tell him that it's too late since we don't really have any more practice opportunities with Brian. | | Thursday, July 5th, 2007 | 10:40 am [countblastula]

x-Posted from Me
New reviews of Tomb of Leopards, from Fufkin and Ear Candy! I take offense to a few comments but all and all they are pretty positive/pleasing/amusing. Yay, Us. From Fufkin- The Corner Laughers -- Tomb Of Leopards (Sandbox): Does anyone out there remember cub? They were a Canadian band that played a spunky brand of pop that they called cuddlecore. It combined surf music energy with sweet and twee melodies. The reason I bring cub up is that The Corner Laughers sound to me like cub 10 years down the road -- the rock energy turned down to soccer mom volume. The core of this cuddly band is Karla Kane, on vocals and ukelele, and guitarist Angela Silletto, who are abetted by various Bay Area popsters like Khoi Huynh and Chris von Sneidern. They have some cute songs, and the best two start the disc. "You Two Are the Ones" is like a more bopping Jill Sobule, with Karla singing about her love for two people...who happen to be a couple. This is followed by "The Red Queen", where the uke ukes out and the song could easily be adapted into a jug band arrangement, a la The Lovin' Spoonful. Producer Aaron Madsen adds some cool lead guitar sounds. Other highlights include "One for the Ladies" with Mr. von Sneidern on drums, and the saucy "See You in Hell". I like the wit and obvious fun being had. I would like more consistent songwriting, and maybe rocking up the music just a notch. sandboxrecords.com From Ear Candy The Corner Laughers,"Tomb Of Leopards" (Sandbox Records) Girly girl powerpop that's so catchy and infectious that it'll probably give you cavities. Twelve lighthearted romps through love and loss, evolution, being trapped in a bathroom, ancient history and guys who are jerks. I guess I fall in that last category since I made the girly girl comment. Anyway, this is a very enjoyable cd full of girl group vocals with indie pop hooks and flashbacks to the sixties sprinkled throughout. The vocals fall somewhere between the Bangles and the Ronettes. Favorite track: "Star Power Lament". www.sandboxrecords.com Rating: 3 and 1/2 |
