My housemate and I are in the process of what we expect to be a long-term relocation to Costa Rica. She and one of our dogs are already in a townhouse in San José. I will follow, with another dog and a cat, in late June. Neither of us has been there before; her employer required the move, and her job was too rewarding to abandon. We will remain American citizens and keep an address here. A rapidly-mounting frustration for her is that she is having trouble shopping for things for our new home. Here in the States, her property is in rural Arizona, about thirty miles from Phoenix; hence we have become quite accustomed to purchasing most durable goods on the Internet. We don’t expect to have a car there, at least not for some time, so looking for things in person is difficult. Can anyone point us to some Internet retailers that either are in Costa Rica or ship products to Costa Rica? I know Amazon will ship books and entertainment CDs and DVDs (not those containing software or games, for some reason) to Costa Rica, but nothing else; and I found that deviantART will also ship there; and, of course, some, though far from most, eBay sellers will ship. I know I can have things shipped to a forwarding service here in the US and have the packages sent on to our home in Costa Rica, but it appears that will be maddeningly expensive. What’s the efficient way to order things for the house, electronics, computer equipment, art work and so forth in San José? My attempts to use my web searching skills to zero in on merchants who ship to Costa Rica have failed, miserably. |
