It's Saturday! I managed to sleep until 7:30am! Banjo was again a very good sleepy friend and we slept straight through the night minus one bathroom break.

Yesterday, I had work until 2:30, and then took his rotten self to the vet for a check up. He did very well, though was a little skittish. He was very sweet about it, though and let the vet check him over. We go back in a week for all his shots and bloodwork which will be traumatic for all involved.

In the meantime, we're planning a trip to petsmart or petco, just to start desensitizing him to people tomorrow. And then he can pick out a treat or toy if he'd like. And maybe get him a costume for Halloween to wear to the vet on Friday. I'm thinking that I'd like a Dracula costume, since he's got the fangs.

Today, we have Marchen, which is always a good time.

My dog is going to have a social life. He's got the vet next week, then the week after, he has his first grooming and then he starts daycare! It's very exciting for a small dog.

In closing, Banjo is adorable and I love him.

Everybody have an outstanding Saturday!

Still waiting...

I was prematurely optimistic about the state of my work computer last week. A new Windows 11 update on Sunday night nuked the remainder of the functionality that remained after last week's update.

( Tldr on PC woes )

In book news, I finished The Calamities. Not my favorite of Wendig's books? I mentioned the thematic denseness and the parsing difficulty, but the characters are also mostly unlikeable. And I haven't read Wayward (sequel to The Wanderers), but in my personal Wendig experience this is his first main black character (where he did well, I thought), his first main non-binary character (who is... demon-adjacent, let's say), and also his first gay male character (who is a serial killer). Not sure that's a great look overall? IDK. I like it when authors stretch themselves out of their own worldviews, but was this the place for so many marginalized characters?

I also read Six Wakes, which I enjoyed a lot. Mur Lafferty really likes writing combined sci-fi/mystery books, and I think she does both genres well. I wish she were more prolific! Well, and also that my library had her Afterlife series on Kindle...

I finished The Guncle yesterday. Humorous and heartfelt at the same time. Definitely recommend it.

Now I'm reading Stephen King's Full Dark, No Stars. I'm much more of a Joe Hill (his son) fan than a King fan, and actually not a horror enthusiast in general, but Hill kind of converted me. This book hasn't really grabbed me yet, so we'll see. Next up will be sci-fi or fantasy...

It's Friday! Yay!

Banjo had another good night, and slept very well. Actually, he seems to have gone back to bed. I only got up once. Which with my good cyst Claudio jumping on my ladder, is pretty much a miracle. Actually, I think Banjo just said Eff this, and went back to bed. Smart dog.

He had his first little accident this morning, pooping on the floor. No big deal, I cleaned it and we went for a walk so he could get anything else out.

This is the first dog I've had who will lift his leg to pee. It's the cutest thing on such a little dog. All my other dogs squatted. He does that too, but is happy to aim for the elevated position too.

Today at work, one of my coworkers is out, so I'll be doing Teams for the morning, and errors in the afternoon. Whoohoo. Then, I get off early so that we can take Banjo to meet the vet and staff. This is just a check up. No bloodwork or shots until 10/30 when he gets a bunch of shots.

I'm looking forward to getting off early. I might finally watch the traitors reunion. It is going to be a clusterfuck, I have no doubt.

After that, we'll come home and I can make dinner, though I need to order some sides in the meantime. Just a few bags of frozen veggies and maybe some fresh. Maybe some fries.

Tonight, we have Brazillian steakhouse style steaks, so we'll see what those are like. I feel like they might be spicy, but we'll see.

I could really go for steamed shrimp, but I don't know if I feel like fucking with that today. We'll see how Banjo does at the vet.

Tomorrow, we shall have Marchen, and that's about all I have planned for the weekend. There's a chocolate festival at the fairgrounds, but I don't know if we want to go to that. I thought the Russian Festival was this weekend, but it appears that I missed that, damn.

I don't really want to leave Banjo anyway. So, it'll be a nice quiet nap filled weekend. Sounds good to me.

I hope everyone at CONfab this weekend has an amazing time. I wish I could have gone, but it just wasn't to be this year.

Okay, time for me to go forth and get myself together. Everyone have a most excellent Friday!

It's Wednesday and I actually got some sleep!

Banjo is starting to calm down a bit. Yesterday, he spent most of his time sitting under my desk near my feetl. It was very sweet. He's still a little ADHD, but not frantic. He'll stay in one place for about 15-20 minutes and then he'll move on. but mostly, he seems to want to hang out with me.

(The lone time he used that bed at all.)

In my zombie state, work was harder than usual. I was triple checking all my work to make sure that I hadn't committed any egregious errors.

Afterwards, I took a nap on the couch, and ordered some Chinese tood

Not long after we ate, We took Banjo and went to bed.

He was a much better sleepy friend this time, allowing me hours of uninterrupted sleep. I think he only woke me up twice. It wasn't half bad. And it's nice to have a warm little puppy cuddled up against you.

This morning, he's a little hyper, but not terrible. I need a couple more good nights and I'll be very happy.

For now, I'm off to take a hot shower to wake up the rest of the way. Everyone have a fantabulous day!

It's Wednesday and I'm wiped out. Banjo is honestly exhausting. He is anxious and is trying to take control of situations and is being a very, very rotten puppy. I slept very little last night on account of the dog that used me as a trampoline at every occassion. I'm hoping the anxiety eases up, or he's going to be locked in the crate, and I don't care how much he whines about it.

The long and short of it is that Banjo is home.

Work seemed to take forever, but finally we were on our way up. traffic was kind of shitty, so I was very glad that the adopter was running late. We still beat her there and got to stand around awkwardly in the driveway, chatting with her father about the weather. I was that person, people.

Finally, the adopter came home and we discussed the conntract and she gave us a little care package of his toys and blankets. Finally, we settled him in his booster seat and he watched sadly out the back window as we drove away, crying softly. Once we got him home, a switch had been flipped, and he was hyper. He would run from person to person excitedly and bounce on them.

Finally, he settled against my leg on the sofa.

Bedtime was exhausting. Banjo is very active and was alternating between licking me and gently mouthig my fingers. This boy needs training stat. If tonight is like this, he may end up in the crate halfway through the night, because I got almost no sleep.

I'm sure I'll be a joy at work today, because I feel like a zombie. We shall see.

For now, everyone have an amazing Wednesday!

We made it through Monday!

Yesterday was not a great day for Trulicity. I'd take my shot on Sunday and by Monday morning, it was kicking my ass. Severe nausea and vomiting twice. I went to work and ended up leaving after an hour for a 4 hour break so I could nap the nausea and headache into somewhat of submission. Thank fuck for FMLA. After that, it had eased down to a dull roar, so I went back and worked til 6:20pm.

We spent the day in agony wondering when/if the rescue was going to call our references. Around 4:40, [personal profile] poisontaster alerted us that they'd talked to her. And about twenty minutes later, my brother in law came over, and let us know that they'd called him, not really asked any questions, and then, since they called as he was driving over, if he wanted to tell us the good news.

WE GOT THE BANJO! We're picking him up after work today! I'm so excited! We could have gotten him last night, but we had a few things to get done before we brought a bud into the house. The rescue is going to lend us a crate, so that'll be good.

The only sad thing is that we're going to be taking him away from his best friend Daisy. We'll take him back to visit for playdates, but I hate that they'll be apart from each other. I want them both, but the apartment has a limit of two pets. It's just she's a black dog, and no one wants black dogs, and she's shy, except with us. Us she came right over to and gave us love. I want her, and my heart is breaking for her.

The rest of the week, hell the month, maybe the year, will be dedicated to getting Banjo settled in. I'm going to work my normal day, and then we will run away up to the rescue to pick up his soon-to-be-spoiled self.

Then we will come home and let him start settling in. Hopefully, it's a relatively smooth transition, but we'll deal with whatever comes.

Tomorrow, we shall start our new life with Banjo. We shall introduce him to our routines, and take him for lots of walkies. I'll order his little coat, since it is getting cold out, and he's not going to fit one of Yoda's.

Okay, time for me to get my shit together. Everyone have a Banjo Tuesday!

It's Monday, whooo. I'm feeling a little rough this morning, mostly owing to the Trulicity shot. I'm really nauseous, my back is still not great, and I've spent the morning gagging on nothing and then coughing my lungs up. It's annoying. I'm sipping my coffee and it's helping with the gagging, but good lord, enough. I get it, you're not happy with me. Deal with it.

Today shall be a busy day as all Mondays are. We'll see if I get thrown on the phones again. At least this is payweek, so that'll be nice. I'm covering R's shift, so that'll be my afternoon and evening, which is a long day, but will cover my PTO for my doctor's appt on Thursday. It's just the nutritionsist, who will hopefully now send me to the endocrinologst, so we can discuss new strategies, since these aren't working.

I also have hopes that the rescue will be calling our references today, so that we can get moving on the application for Banjo. I want a do-over meet and greet where he isn't overwhelmed by everything, and it's just us. Hopefully then he'll be less shy and maybe we'll get to actually meet him.

I posted on facebook that we'd met him and put in an application, and the rescue did comment that they are going to work on it today. They also said that he is the combination of a purebred oops. His mom is a Shih Tzu and his dad is a wire haired Chihuahua. So he's a Shih-chua? Chihua-Tzu? I have no clue.

Hopefully, they can get through the calls and we can have a puppers soon. The house has been too quiet without the jingling of tags and soft puppy kisses.

Yesterday was as expected, a day of doing absolutely nothing. I either sat on the couch or lay in the bed all day. It worked to the extent that I think I can handle work, but I'm still very sore. Towards the end of the day, I was really getting bored, so we did watch more Traitors. I'm to the point that I don't hate the entire second season cast, but I think they're really weak. The traitors have done nonsensical shit, the faithfuls have been just as stupid. We're down to the final episode and the reunion for this season. I have hopes for next season, as they have one of my favorite drag queens in it.

Okay, time for me to consider getting myself together and waking te fuck up. Everyone have an amazing Monday!

Ahahahaha!

I have a bunch of Facebook Marketplace postings, many of which are for Build-A-Bear clothes or accessories, since the kids outgrew all of that ages ago and have already indicated what they want to keep. I got a message today about one of them, from a woman wanting to know if my pristine Build-A-Bear dog bed (offered at $10) was for a large dog! Wow. \o?

I had a scare last week with my work and home computers. The home computer got stuck on "BitLocker key needed" after a bad Windows 11 update. Fortunately, I was able to get it out of that state. The work computer? Possibly due to the same update, it wigged out while I was downgrading my NoMachine app (which definitely had a bad update). My desktop icons entirely disappeared. :O I checked to make sure nothing was in the recycle bin, and waited awhile. But things didn't come back. I rebooted to see if that would fix it, but no. It was actually worse then, because my whole environment was gone. Thank goodness my OneDrive files and my personal docs and files were still there. Just not my apps. I tried IT Friday afternoon, and nobody called me back. Tried again on Saturday, and the person was much more helpful and able to understand the problem. Ultimately, she resolved the problem (mostly?) with a hard reset, which was kind of embarrassing. It's basically the "Have you tried turning it off and then on again?" solution, except with the added step of removing power.

So, things are back now? But I'm getting funky behavior when I try to use Word, like it wants me to create an account, and MS Teams also thinks I'm not fully logged in. Well, at least I don't have to drive all the way in to the office tomorrow.

I went outside for a bike ride today. Less sucky than Thursday's ride, which was awful. Not helped by ending it at 89F. I thought I was going out again Friday, but there was a stiff wind that made me out of breath almost immediately, so I went home and biked in the garage. It'll be cooler this coming week, but that will start off with being too windy tomorrow, and then possible rain Tuesday-Thursday. Who knows how often I'll get out?

Today's other accomplishment, though, was filling out my California ballot. About 50% as bad as the worst-ever one? 14 bonds/propositions to vote on, and no info in the state voter's guide about any of them. It looks as if the California Secretary of State's office was more concerned about people successfully submitting their ballots this year than anything, and in my area alone we've already had at least one person break into an official USPS mailbox to steal ballots, and another break into a USPS mail truck. God, but Trump and his cult are crooks. :(

I did not get around to doing Halloween decorations this weekend. Maybe next week? I also need to buy replacement plants for the ones that died during all of our sprinkler issues this summer. \o?

It's Sunday! Shit, where did Saturday go?

We had a very good day on Saturday, actually. We got up, and were sitting, preparing for Marchen, and at 11am, Jess saw that the dog, Banjo, was going to be at a Fall festival 20 minutes from us. We postponed game and jumped in the car and drove like a mad person, terrified that in the time it would take us to get there, someone would steal him from us.

It turned out to be a pretty big festival. We parked and hopped on a tractor-pulled wagon for the ride to the festival. The festival was in Hereford, which in MD has it's own micro climate. At home was on the edge of being cool, with a light breeze. Hereford was downright chilly and windy as fuck, so even with a sweater on, I was freezing. It was a very nice festival. We would have never found the stall without Jess noticing that there was another whole section, but finally we were there, and I saw little Banjo sitting quietly in his crate.

He was darling, and small and we introduced ourselves and immediately plopped on the ground in front of the stall. He was sadly very overwhelmed by the sights and sounds (they were relatively close to the stage) and did not want to come over for attention, but we sat there for a bit and talked to his best friend Daisy.

One thing the picture I posted did not show is that this dog has a pretty solid underbite.

Is that not adorable?

I asked for a application and we went to eat, and I filled it out right then, and emailed it back. Then, before we left, we stopped back and dropped off a donation, and again cooed over everyone. The rescue owner mentioned that most people who say they're coming to see a dog do not follow through, so it was very nice to see that we had. (Hopefully that's a promising sign. Also, apparently Daisy is normally a very standoffish dog, but she came right over to us and demanded love.) I'm assuming we won't hear back until at least midway through the week, since they have to call our references and our vet to make sure we're good parents.

After that, we headed home and played Marchen, which was super fun, and ended on a thoroughly heartbreaking moment thanks to [personal profile] poisontaster as her rogue begged the goddess for a moment to see her kidnapped son one last time.

I ended a little early because by then my back had started to really hurt, probably from walking on the uneven ground at the festival, or the jouncing in the wagon ride to the festival. Turned out, Jess had a migraine starting, so that was a good choice. The rest of the day was spent relaxing and occasionally looking at each other and softly saying Banjooo!

Today, my back is in full revolt, and it is uncomfortable to stand, sit or lay down. I'm supposed to DM, but unless it feels much better, I don't think that is going to happen.

It'll probably be a low-key day relaxing and babying it. The festival is still going on today, but we agreed that going back to see Banjo again would be stalkery behavior. I want to, though. I really want to, despite the pain. Also, I do think the wagon might kill me if I tried. So quiet day, and tomorrow back to the madhouse. I'm waiting to order the dog crate off Amazon, but I'm tempted. I found a very cute one that's meant to be a side table. I think it'll be perfect for next to the bed. That way the dog has a safe place, but can also sleep near until it feels comfortable enough to get on the bed with us. Then, it will only be used while we're out. Once we trust them, they can have the run of the house.

Okay, time to drink some coffee and wait for the ibuprofen to kick in. Everyone have an amazing Sunday!

You have everything, except a freaking dog. I get that rescues take time to screen applicants, but would it kill them to keep you up to date on where things are in the process? I have put in at least half a dozen applications and I've heard back exactly one time, they got both of my references, and then they stopped answering when I asked some questions about the dog's temperament. It's maddening. At least the one with Chiquita was honest, they may not answer back, and if you don't hear in 2 weeks, you didn't get the dog.

It's hard, you see these adorable little babies, and you send your application and build little lives in your head about what it's going to be like if you get them, and then crickets. It's very frustrating.

In other news, Jess found another baby for me to bang my head against the wall over. His name is Banjo, and he's friendly with everyone, including a mini-pig. I messaged and called the rescue yesterday, so we'll see. He's very cute. Jess is thoroughly smitten.

If they call, I would cancel everything to go meet him. They're only about 20min away. But we'll see.

This weekend is filled with D&D. We've got Marchen, Frostmaiden and a then one shot that I wrote tomorrow.

Work was long yesterday. Several people were out, so I was jumping from job to job, putting out fires. I know J is out on Monday, so I'll probably be doing it again.

But in the meantime, I shall drink my coffee and maybe grab a shower. Everyone have a fabulous Saturday!

When I was young, my mother made dinosaur cakes for my birthday.

They resembled whatever the Flintstones' Dino was supposed to be: a happy-looking dinosaur-blob with purple skin and M&M spots. The cakes themselves were always chocolate (still my favorite). I never had a dinosaur toy, but maybe I really liked Dino?

All I know is that I was luckier than my sister, whose favorite toy was a stuffed rabbit. Her bunny cakes were… possibly yellow cake underneath the frosting? But sadder still, they were always covered in coconut because my mother thought bunny cakes should have "fur".

I don't think many kids got to have "shaped" cakes back then. My mother liked doing crafts, though (our felt Christmas stockings were a thing of wonder), and she was more than capable of making special cakes.

I kept up this tradition with our own kids, though I discovered early on that I preferred using the cake as a sort of "canvas" rather than creating specific shapes. ( Read more... )

It's Friday! I am very sleepy today. We went to see Street Fighter last night. They billed it as a "fan event." Not sure how it was any different than a regular movie, since they didn't do anything, except a 6 minute trailer that introduced us to the characters and actors.

The movie was...unique. Never has a movie made Jess and I pause, look at each other and mouth "what the fuck even is this?" at each other so many times. As Jess said, they took the notes that the last one was campy and made it a technicolor fever dream. Even now, I'm not entirely sure what I saw. It's...unique. Did I enjoy it? Yes. Was I delighted? Yes. Do I think the writers, director and actors might have been on Hallucinogenics? Yes. As Jess said, I would like this to make a billion dollars, because it was just so strange. It tried to be a warm family drama, a hardcore action movie, plus a revenge flick, plus some weird sci-fi shit. Oh, and demons. It was a lot.

Special mention: Cody Rhodes. Cody stole the show. Best actor? No. Most entertaining? Yes. He was fucking delightful. Also SO into Vega. Callina Liang. Chun Li was always my favorite to play, and I enjoyed her performance. Orville Peck. When I didn't play as Chun Li, I would play as Vega. I know a lot of it was a stunt double and CGI, but whatever dance training he did worked. He moved so fluidly that I wondered if he even had joints, or if he was like a snake. It was distracting and the hot pants were mighty. I was into it.

Today, I know a couple of people in leadership are out, so it's going to be a day. I will be kept busy.

So [personal profile] poisontaster let us know that she'd gotten an email from a rescue, but alas, it is not our beloved Chiquita yet. She wrote us an amazing review that made us sound like we were half Disney Princess, half Jesus Christ. It was so sweet, and it totally made me teary. Now I just need Chiquita's rescue to ask for it.

Kapi is also a good boy and we'd be lucky to get him, but my heart is set on Chiquita if we can get her.

Tomorrow, we have two games, Marchen and Frostmaiden! That should be super fun. And Sunday, we have a one shot that I wrote. It should be a fun weekened. Frostmaiden is dicey right now, as two players are sick, so if we need to push it out, we can.

Okay, time for me to go forth and get myself together. Everyone have a most excellent Friday!

It's Thursday, and I almost feel well rested. Tuesday night, I slept for shit, but last night I fell asleep nicely, and slept through with only one bathroom break. It was good. I could still sleep more, mind you, but I'm okay with out it.

Yesteray, I went to my Future Leaders class. It was just the introduction day, so we had various VIPs coming in and talking to us. I met a lot of the big cheeses, some of whom recognized my name, which was disconcerting. One looked at me and said "Are you the Teresa who handles our cardiacs?" And P, who is our Director came in to do her talk, and said hello to me as "T" which is my nickname. So that was highly weird. But cool.

The presentations were interesting, but I'm looking forward to getting to the real meat of the course next month. Apparently, next month we're going to learn our communication style. They don;t call it the Myers Briggs anymore, now it's Prism. So that should be interesting, although potentially useless. But hey, we'll see.

The house is quiet without Yoda. Lizzy is doing her best, but there's no tag jingling and no deep grunting sighs as he repositioned himself on the sofa and flopped back down, or loud barking when someone was in the hallway.

No word yet from the rescue yet. It's only been a day ahd a half, so that would indeed be fast. Hopefully soon, since we're all on tenterhooks waiting.

Last night, we decided to do the hopeful thing and go out and get a few dog things. New dog bowls, some toys and treats and a skeleton hoodie that will hopefully fit whoever we get, and a brush to keep them tidy and not matted.

I keep checking Petfinder, and she's still up, so hopefully that means no one has gotten her yet. I will love whatever dog we get, but she is still my top pick.

I know a rescue did contact the vet, but I don't know which one. I sent them a thank you email, and let them know that it was okay to share information with the rescues that might call. They wrote back and said that they had already recieved one call and gave us a glowing recommendation. None of our references have heard anything yet, so no clue.

Fingers crossed that it'll be soon. I miss having a dog.

Today, I shall have work, and then tonight we're going to see Street Fighter. I am expecting dogshit, but fun dogshit. At some point, I might have a short phone interview to meet with a potential therapist. I figured with all the shit going on, it might be worth it. Then, I too, can have someone tell me that sometimes, things just suck. (Jess' therapist was suitably horrified about our currently experience.

Tomorrow, will be Friday, and that is awesome. Hopefully, we hear from the rescue.

Okay, time for me to go forth and get myself together. Everyone have an amazing Thursday!

Good morning! It's Wednesday and I have the Future Leaders conference/class today. I, of course, slept for shit. First I was anxious, then I had reflux and couldn't sleep, so I laid on the couch and slept sitting up. Then at 2:30, I went back to bed and slept for another hour and a half. I definitely will be drinking my coffee before I go, and maybe taking a second cup with me.

I still haven't decided where to park, of if I'd be better off taking an Uber. On one hand, parking will be expensive, because I'd park at the hotel to avoid the mile long hike. On the other, I hate not having my own car. Oh well, I've got a few more hours to decide. I still have to prepare a bag, with my stuff and a bottle of water. I'm planning to look chic. I will have Jess take a picture once I'm prepared.

The class goes from 9-4, so I'll be in prime traffic on the way home, which is going to suck either way. If I'm grateful for one thing with Yoda, it's that it's done, so that Jess doesn't have to deal with him solo today. That would have sucked.

I continue to fill out dog applications, but one in particular has caught my heart.

This is Chiquita in New Jersey, and I'm in love with her. I put in an application yesterday and today I keep staring at my email like it will make a reply fall out. She was surrendered at a high kill shelter in rough shape, matted and alone, and then she gave birth to 5 puppies. Only three made it. They pulled her and got her care, and she's blossomed into that gremlin of a dog.

The ear is not always up, here's her more recently after her most recent grooming, and she almost looks respectable. She's 3 years old, about 15 lbs, and loved everyone, including cats and other dogs. If our application is approved, we'll be going up to NJ asap to pick her up. She's a 3.5 hour drive, so one of the longest that I've ever driven for. Previous was Hershey PA, for Lizzy and Harrisburg, PA for Yoda, both of which are about an 90minute drive.

I really want this one, and I'm so hoping that our application goes through. I want to see that happy smile in the mornings when I wake up. I am having trouble conceiving of what a 15lb dog looks like, since Yoda and Kyan were our prior smallest at around 25-30lbs.

Even though it's not set in stone, I have a shopping cart full of toys and clothes and a carseat ready to go for her. All I have to do is is hit "Place order."

I hope they give us an answer soon. I've put [personal profile] poisontaster and my boss down as references, and if it's borderline, I'm trusting both of them to bring it home. I also put them down for Lizzy, and they called us within a few days on the strength of their recommendation.

Tomorrow, I won't get much sleep either, as I'm going to be going out at 7 to see the new Streetfighter movie. It looks like a total shitshow and I can't wait. I love me some trashfire action movies. It'll mean that Friday I'm a bit of a zombie, but I can deal.

We have a couple of games set for the weekend, Frostmaiden on Saturday and a one shot I came up with on Sunday afternoon. Hopefully it'll be a lot of fun. For Frostmaiden, I am going to need the villian to roll above a 3 to hit this session. That would be helpful. Marchen is going to depend on Puppy and other players health, so we'll see.

Okay, gonna go get a shower and start preparing myself for this class. Everyone have a wonderful Wednesday!

Y'all, I cannot state enough how much yesterday sucked. We let Yoda go yesterday, and he went out in full Diva fashion.

Once I made the call, I spent the day in full pre-grief mode, crying off an on, just a fucking wreck. I finally gave up on work after lunch ad sat with him til my sister got home. He was just listless, laying around and not doing much of anything, and while it hurt, we were secure that this was the right choice. Of course, my sister got home and he immediately got up and barked and greeted her, and we were back to feeling horrible.

( cut for traumatic pet death )

Once it was done, the vet hugged us, and we said our goodbyes. Despite the hard nature of it, the people were so nice, I'll continue using the vet. He hugged us and told us all how sorry he was. His tech petted Yoda just the way he lifed and promised to take good care of him for us after we left. It was the hardest thing I've ever done, and I hated it. And now the house is quiet except for Lizzy, who thankfully was a total clown we we got home, surfing from person to person and giving all the love.

We won't be without a dog long. We have a tentative plan to head north to meet some dogs this weekend. The shelter is getting in a couple of cavipoo puppies, so we may check those out. And we have applications in for a couple of other dogs. I'm kind of hoping for one named Snoopy, but we'll see.

Tomorrow, I have the Future Leaders program, so I will need to get myself together early and be ready to head down to the hospital.

But for today, I will be sad, and miss my bud. Everyone have an awesome Tuesday!

It's Monday and I'm dreading it. Today or tomorrow, we're going to be euthanizing Yoda. This weekened, he's started to show some signs, and we can't let him suffer. Mostly they're little things. He seems lethargic, not so interested in eating, he's been coughing more, and seems a little confused sometimes. I hate it. We've moved up our deadline to tomorrow night, unless he's not eating, in which case it'll be tonight. It's going to suck either way, and I'm not sure that waiting is the best thing, but he's my sister's dog, so we're kind of letting her lead. If I felt like he was in pain, I'd put my foot down, but he doesn't seem to be.

It's hard. He's been a part of my life for over a decade, and I love him dearly.

Yesterday was mostly spent watching the dog and worrying, but we did make time to go out to an all you can eat sushi place for lunch. The food was very good, though I don't know that we ate enough to make it worth the price. They have a regular menu, so we might do that next time. Their miso soup was some of the best I've ever had, salty and delicious. I could have had another bowl of that, easily.

We're watching Traitors season 2, and I hate these people. I don't want any of them to win the money. Though they just brought in Kate from season 1, who I really liked. She's bitchy and funny and I'm looking forward to seeing how she sakes things up. I can't wait for the next couple of seasons, where we have Bob the Drag Queen. I know she's going to get eliminated fast, but I can dream.

I'm excited about the upcoming season, which is going to have one of my all time favorite queens, Bianca Del Rio on it.

Silly things are keeping me sane right now.

I did send a message to my doctor, so hopefully, she'll get back to me today and let me know what to think about my amazing disappearing endometrium.

We've also been looking at petfinder, seeing if there's any puppers who we'd be interested in once Yoda is gone. There's a couple who are just adorable. We're going to see if any of them are interested in us, and go from there.

I don't expect will be going that long without, though. I'm holding onto that.

Okay, time for me to grab a shower and get myself together. Everyone have the very best Monday you can Monday!

Weather reprieve!

I got outside for a bike ride today for the first time in 2 weeks! Our 93-100 degree stint finally ended. It was a nice ride, too. Great temperature and not a lot of wind. If all goes well, we'll have about 3 more days of this. Then the temps will go back up to 87-90 for about 4 days. I wish Fall in Sacramento were more like actual Fall...

I finished watching Silo, and now I'm sorry I was in such a hurry. I thought I had two seasons worth of backlog, but it was only one. A lot of very surprising twists happened in S3, which was great. But I want more!

Still reading Chuck Wendig's The Calamities, which is still proving a challenge. There's a lot of worldbuilding (looks like it's the first book in a future series?), and it's told in sections that switch between (so far) four different POVs. I mentioned before that the they/them chapters were hard to parse. Bring me xe/xir or zie/zir, please! That whole aspect of the book also feels kind of performative. And? Each chapter begins with an excerpt of real or faked-up poetry/literature/journal entries, so there's a new context to acquire each time. Possibly, I am just getting old and my brain is less elastic now. :O I've been reading it for over a week, and I'm only 70% finished.

My next book needs to be something less dense, though I'm not sure what that will wind up being. Definitely not The Devils, which sounds like more of the same. Another Mike Chen? Or one of the many mysteries in my library wish list? It depends on what's available. It'll take me at least three more days to finish the current book, so I don't know if I want to check out something now or wait a few days?

Sometime soon, I need to crack open my ballot and see what and who is on it. The thickness of the voter's guide is pretty daunting, though. Voting in California is not for the faint of heart! I still remember the year when we had almost 30 propositions/measures/bonds in one voting cycle. Holy crap! I'm hoping this year will be significantly less bad. :O

It's a gross, rainy morning, the perfect day to do nothing. Alas, there were things I wanted to do, but we'll see how the weather is.

Yesterday was a good day despite starting it with my repeat transvaginal Ultrasound. The idea was to make sure that Claudio and friends weren't getting any worse. I don't know if the tech was more thorough or if the first one was gentler, but it was less than pleasant this time. I'm actually a little achy today from all the probing. The tech was very nice, and we chatted about the state of appointments at Hopkins Radiology, and how frustrating patients could be, so aside from the discomfort, it wasn't a bad appointment.

I got my results this morning, and I am so confused. Claudio is about the same, maybe slightly bigger, they measured him at 12cm instead of 11. But my thickened endometrium has disappeared. Down from 17mm to 2mm, which is entirely normal. I don't even fucking know what this means. Does shedding make it less likely to be cancer, or more likely? Just WTF body? Could you make up your fucking mind? I'll talk to my doctor tomorrow and see what she says.

After that, we had a lovely game of Marchen. I had a real surge of nausea about 2/3 of the way through, but I got through it, and everyone seemed to have fun.

After that, we just relaxed.

We've decided that Yoda won't be our last dog after all, and have begun sorting through the variety of listings on petfinder. We've already found a few darlings. I put in some messages about a couple, and we were talking about going to see one in the near future who's nearby. IT feels slightly disloyal to do it with Yoda sitting right there, but I figure we need something to look forward to after the next 19 days are up.

I've got the Future Leaders Program on Wed, so I'm excited and nervous about that. Not quite sure what to do about lunch--whether I should pack, or go to a food truck or what? I'll need to do a little research on stuff in the area. The parking is also a question. We get free parking in JH's garages, but the actual hotel is about half a mile away, I think. While I can waik that, I'm not sure I want to. There's a garage att the hotel, but I'd have to pay for that.

I think I'm going to hit up one of the other people who's done this before and ask questions about what we're going to be doing this first session.

Okay, time for me to start waking up and maybe look at more puppies. Everyone have a wonderful Sunday!
