So, the Last Several Days
Jan. 20th, 2010 11:47 pmLast Thursday, i left for Boston viaPhiladelphia, picking up
nancylebov on the way, and got to
thespian's house about 00:30 on Friday. We got in late due to starting out later than planned and pausing for food at The Club Diner in Bellmawr, NJ. We first stopped at that diner one night on our way back from a con - we were both ravenous, and it beckoned from the side of NJ 168 on our way to the Ben Franklin Bridge. We've eaten many meals there over the years now, and recommend it if you find yourself at Exit 3 on the NJTP or Exit 28 from I-295 in NJ. Head W from the Turnpike or E from 295: it's on the S side of the road.
Friday we got to the hotel. Saturday i went for a walk up to Central Square and got me a sundae at Toscanini's, and sat and reminisced for a bit before walking back to the hotel, where i ran into Amqueue, with whom i had a lovely dinner at the hotel restaurant, Zephyr on the Charles. They do lovely, lovely soups there. I also ate my dinner on Sunday night at the hotel restaurant. Food was good-to-decent for what i had - though again, the soups were all lovely.
The hotel provided a food bar at the bottom of the escalator on the 1st floor with a wide variety of yummy things, including a veggie chili and a selection of soups, a variety of Uno's personal pan pizzas, a veggie noodle box, various wraps, cookies, a terrific setup of fresh-baked potatoes with most any common topping you could want, and all were reasonably priced. Most of my food came from that selection over the weekend.
Ran into and/or chatted with a bunch of people at least in passing including:
britecloth,
jbsegal,
ckd,
lordlnyc,
badgerthorazine,
kdsorceress,
happypete,
prettypammie, M and chinfuzzy - whom i get to see only at Arisia usually, and bunches of others.
Monday night
nancylebov and i spent with the most gracious
thespian again, and we ate at The Club Diner again, getting into Philadelphia a bit after 23. I finally got home about 14:30. We happily left the wintry mix behind us somewhere in Connecticut, and had clearish, mostly dry travel the rest of the way down.
I need to take
tomhundleyrn up to Boston for some days so we can visit people and places. He's not been there yet. Only place he's been in Massachusetts so far is Pittsfield.

Changes, and July Plans
Jul. 8th, 2007 10:33 pmFor those of you who've missed the news, my preliminary clearance came through on the 1st, and i start work tomorrow at 08:00. I have not a clue what my hours/days look like at this point. I will update with more details as i have it. Basic schedule is: Week B: Initially, i'm working days, but in the end will be working nights. Note that i work every other weekend.
I will be going to Baitcon, which i am very much looking forward to. Due to that, i am not working the 19th-24th, inclusive, this month.
Due to the work hours in Week A, i expect that i shall not have much time to check LJ that week, as to get as much sleep as i need, i technically have 3 hours a day that i'm neither at work nor asleep. Phone, SMS, and email will be the best ways to reach me. Comment, or otherwise ping me if you need that data.
This month will be interesting as i get into the rhythm of the job, though i expect it will be into Aug before i'm really into the swing of things.

Google Maps
Jun. 29th, 2007 04:17 pmYesterday, i was using Google maps to get from Gaihersburg, MD to Hamilton, VA. The shortest rought is via White's Ferry. First, it tried to send me via 270S-495S-267W-7W/15S-7W-9W-Bus 7W. So, i dragged the blue line to shorten it, and it tried 270N-15S-Bus 15S-Bus 7W-7W-9W-Bus 7W. Still too long. Yes, the Bus 7 routes are non-contiguous, so that part makes sense.
To get it to aknowledge the ferry, i had to enter Gaithersburg, MD to Whites Ferry, MD to Hamilton VA, cutting an hour and some miles off the trip Making the route 124W-28N-107W-ferry-655W-15S-Bus 15S-Bus 7W-7W-9W-Bus 7W. 107 and 655 are both Whites Ferry Rd, but on opposite sides of the river.
It gladly sends me via other toll facilities, why not the ferry by default i wonder. Admittedly, the ferry does not run between 23 and 05:30, but this was at 14.

2007 Travel Plans
Nov. 6th, 2006 10:31 pmIgnoring some cons, in 2007 i plan to travel, at minimum, to:
- Cleveland in the winter, probably around my birthday
- Portland, OR, late Spring/early Summer, coordinated with
agentxs, if he's up for it. If i drive out there, i'm tempted to swing by Colorado to meet a few people in the flesh, if that might be arranged - Sicily and Amsterdam, maybe Madrid, probably in August, to hit the festival in the small Sicilian town in Messina Province where my friend has her flat
- New York City at some point, i'll start tix shopping now for shows methinks
