This community was created as an outgrowth of a desire to inform pet owners and rescuers about Disaster preparedness, current emergencies, opportunities for training, opportunities to Volunteer, community action plans, State/local/regional resources for emergency assistance. This is NOT a place to post non-disaster related rescues. Communities already exist on LJ for that. This community is dedicated to the memory of all Animals who lost their lives in Hurricane Katrina and it's aftermath, and to those brave and noble souls who went in afterwards to rescue the survivors.
Rules:
1. This is a SAFE SPACE, no insults, trolling, or flaming permitted.
2. This is an online community, please remember to also work with the agencies n your geographic area to ensure your disaster plan is viable.
3. We are NOT a replacement for the ASPCA, UAN, USHS, or any other rescue organisation, those resorces are your first line of protection and assistance, please work with them FIRST
4. To protect people with PTSD as a result of a rescue I ask everyone when posting a disaster experiance story to put it behind a cut and mark it as cut for triggers.
More rules will be forthcoming, just remember to treat others with respect, and the rules really are just an addition to that.

redhawknflight is for now the only moderator, as a result it may take up to 48 hours to get added to the community, once added posts are unmoderated, unless the rules are violated. You will get 2 warnings for rules violation, after which you will be banned. NO EXCEPTIONS. There will also be freezes applied to anything that resembles a flame, if you feel this thread freeze is unjust, you may comment on my personal journal (comments are screened) at which point it will be reconsidered in light of intent.

Reason for wanting to join:
Affiliation to rescue organisations, if any:
Anything you want to add to the application:
Most applications will be accepted, unless the journal looks obviously like a Troll account
