Chain Reaction
Ok, we finally have a solid grip on what got my mom so sick. Don't have an exact timeline, and not even going to try. But it was all initially caused by a prolapsed bladder which was cutting off most of the flow of her urine. The backup had caused a bladder infection. That went undiagnosed (and thus untreated) because of a certain doc who needs to be throttled, but that's besides the point. Because of that it turned into a full Urinary Track Infection (UTI). This got serious enough that the body, to fight the infection, cut a lot of her blood flow to vital organs so that it could give its all to fighting a losing war. The kidneys weren't getting enough of what it needed to function, so they shut down. The docs caught on pretty quickly on this one, and started her on meds designed to bring them back up and running along with the antibiotics to kill the infection. The combination of these meds through off her patasium and electrolyte levels, causing her heart to develop an arithmia. Normally your breathing goes shallower to help fight off the effects but because of the buildup of toxins in her brain she was overly confused by all the motion going on around her which threw her in a panic, increasing her breathing and thus making the arithmia worse.
Ok, major suckage, and all because one ER doc refused to take her issues seriously enough to at least do a simple piss test to check for an infection. Did I mention he needed Throttled? Arg!
But the good news is she's getting the infusions she needs to get her electorlytes and potasium back in balance. The antibiotics seem to be working and fighting back the infection though its had enough time to get hold that it's taking time. The dialysis is doing a good job of keeping the toxins down until her kidneys reboot, which the doc is fairly sure they will do and come to a near full recovery. He's making no promises that they will ever again be 100% though, but at least close enough not to need the dialysis hooked up to her again.
Today she was back to herself almost fully. Still a bit slow on the uptake, but she did catch on to what was going on if you took your time with her. She also is starting to get her sense of humor back, along with her unyielding need to go back to work.
