grack! PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

planet. fall. tud.

sorry I've fallen off the face of the earth for a bit folks. wow. I got SUCKERED. ::shrug:: one of my coworkers, more to the point, my boss's nephew who's working for us part time after school, asked me if I could help sew costumes for the West High production of Oklahoma, in which he plays Jud, the villian. me, me, oh SILLY me, said sure, no problem, put me in touch w/ your teacher and I'll see what they need help with. ::growl:: now I'm essentially the costume designer, costume mistress, and costuming coordinator ALL wrapped up in one Ferry little stressed-out ball because the director, nice as he is, is queer as a pink three dollar bill and thinks matching costumes would be "FAAABulous!" needless to say,it went from "we'll probly get most of the basic stuff at a thrift store" to "wow, this quilting fabric is really nice" to I now have a cast of 28 girls, a techie who must be costumed for scene changes, and 9 males, all of whom need SOMEthing done. ::Sigh:: and opening night os 10-9-08.

if anyone in Knoxville is willing to help sew I'd love you even more than I already do. currently I have 3 working sewing machines here at the house that we've managed to fix/inherit/replace, and while I get to deal w/ sewing a god-awful-pepto-bismal-pink saloon girl dress for Gertie, I have to personally do Aunt Eller's apron, extend the back of Laurey's top and hem it, put in zippers for both Laurey and Ado Annie's tops, sew faux sleeves into the ballet dresses for Laurey and her ballet double. there is also a man's vest to do for Curly, and a slew of hats to decorate & alter. I also have to find time (while working full time at my real job mind you) to hem/turn/finish and buttonhole 9 ladies' vests (thank gods, rltrlarper's mom has offered to hand-sew the buttons when they're ready). sadly thou, I am having to take in the underarm seams of all 9 a bit as the director today decided they don't hang right. GAR! I told him they weren't going to hang exactly right but he didn't want everyone in aprons. I also need to finish the waistband & hem on one skirt, and sew together, hem, and waistband 3 more skirts that have gussets. fortunately, everything but the man's vest is already cut and ready to sew, but it's damned time consuming. if anyone out there is willing to help out a bit, I have been told I can score you free tickets to the show. I will drop off/pick up projects, or arrange to feed you if you come by! what I really need badly is help w/ the vests and skirts, because they're fairly straight-forward, just time consuming, and require a lot of pins on the skirts and vest hems, which I am going to be needing my own supply of for the pink thing. anything that requires EIGHT YARDS of material is not something I'm terribly looking forward to playing with!

and, to top it all off, the director was supposed to call me tonight when he got the buttons and zippers that I needed to finish the stuff up, and still no word. thoug I seriously doubt he'd have found the seperating zippers at wal-hell 'cause I looked last time I was there and nothing. and only about half the girls have character shoes, and NONE of the guys have boots or cowboy hats, which are a bloody NIGHTMARE to find for cheap btw. Rick and I have loaned out about 6 of our own shirts and such as it is, and only 3 of the 9 men have shirts assigned, or vests, etc. and I'm still missing shirts for 3 girls to go with the TWENTY-FOUR skirts that I had to cut. thank god a couple of mothers are doing those and the FOURTEEN aprons! ye gods. and now he wants the home ec teacher and another parent to make 8 black skirts for the dance chorus in the ballet scene! we haven't even found a shirt for Jud that we can distress yet, nor his suspenders, or a wedding suit for Curly, OR Ali Hakim's ANYthing. Let's not forget the other 2 male speaking parts that need jackets and not vests! EEK! ye GODS what have I gotten myself into?!? and no, before you ask, I am NOT getting paid, as I "volunteerd" before I knew what all was involved. for a $500 costuming budget I didn't feel right charging at the time, but yet gods maybe I should have! on the up side, I get to keep all 6 patterns when I'm done, and the fabric scraps. :)

if anybody out there in Knoxville land would be willing to help w/ vests and skirts, it would be vastly and greatly appreciated! I will be slaving all weekend and probly next weekend on the last minute detail stuff, and every night this week except Monday as we have an appointment w/ our mortgage guy that eve. technically, they are *supposed* to have everything done, including costumes, for tech week, which starts, oh, MONDAY. they didn't spring THAT one on me until today! they are aware that all will not be completely done by then, but dang it I'll do whatever I can. breathing again would be really nice! ::tud:: back to the grind, at least until I pass out! I'll be lucky to have hair left by opening night!
