As many of our friends know, Rick and I have been working on our own L.A.R.P. called Dark Passages. We have come a long way on this but we need help, mainly we need to find people that would like to help with putting everything down into a well written professional looking rule book as well as people willing to be on our plot staff (those few would get to have major input into how the game comes to life)
If you are interested in joining with us, or know someone else who might be please have them email Rick at darkpassagesdirector@gmail.com. And thanks to all those that have already helped so much and those that are still helping and those that will be helping. We're still chugging along and have a ton of stuff on paper, just haven't had time to get much typed into preliminary files yet. make sure we've got your email address if you want to be added to the rules-making forums once we get them set up!

We were up until 3am last night and we're still pulling stuff OUT. we haven't even mopped and dried the floors yet. we desperately need help cleaning stuff and moving it back in, which should begin around 2:30pm after we get the floor scrubbed. we both have to work tomorrow, and the radar shows some pockets of rain heading right this way! PLEASE! any help is greatly appreciated. I don't see how we'll get any sleep for work tomorrow if we don't get some help! Only 1 person came by yesterday, so please PLEASE if you're free even for a little bit everything will help!! Thanks! |

If anyone in Knoxville is free at all on Saturday we can use all the help we can get! With all the rain lately, our basement has flooded slightly. There's just enough water down there for stuff to start molding, so we absolutely MUST get it cleaned up ASAP. We need as much help moving the furniture and boxes out as we can rustle up. The more help, the quicker it'll go. Then we start the cleanup. It's gonna be an all day project, so give us a buzz or just stop on by to help if you can. We will have plenty of iced tea, kool aid, and ice water on hand. I can't promise to feed everyone, but we'll do what we can if people are there that late helping. I'm sure we can come up w/ something, or if anyone wants to bring stuff we can grill out or I can cook afterwards. Thanks in advance guys! |

Please come if you can, we'd love to see everybody, but be sure to RSVP since parking and crash space is limited!! Also, that way we'll know how much food to prep!! Please email me at dragonangel1369@yahoo.com or call and leave a message to be put on the guest list 865*689*3367.
In lieu of a wedding registry, we are asking only for contributions towards our honeymoon. We have everything we need for the house, and all we really want is to be able to afford to take our road-trip honeymoon!! We're taking our pop-up camper out west for a week, so even $5-10 will help towards meals and gas. Please don't feel obligated to contribute, but if you want to we'll love you forever!! Prepaid Visas, gift cards for gas, groceries, or camping supplies, cash, checks, paypal donations, etc, anything would be freaking AWESOME!! We realize it's very late at night, but dangit, we were determined it was going to be on Halloween, and we're in a friend's wedding later that afternoon who'd already sent their invites out over a year ago, so it was really the only time to make it official. We'd love to see you!
Bright blessings to all. - Fer and Rick |

what the fuck is it with people naming their kids all kinds of screwed up crap btw?? over the years, I've seen it all, from normalish hippy crap like Summer Rain, Autumn Blaize, Storm Cloud, etc. they're kinda cutesy, but really kinda pretty too. not all that bad when you get right down to it.
then there's shit like Shaquethia, Nysetria, Shamika, Princess, Goddess... odd, and perceived to be tending towards the black community, but again, not too bad.
then you get into the just plain odd, like Lone Bush, Diamond Rattler, and Pepsi Kholer (and yes, there really are people in various states with similar names and such, look in a phone ... Read Morebook sometime!!)
I understand people are trying to be cute... but Oranjello, Lemonjello, and Shithead (pronounced sh-ith-aid) because somebody thought they were FRENCH?!? but why in God's name would you name your child Dorcas?!?!?!?!? |

looks like we won't be making Portals tomorrow after all sadly.
first and foremost, we cannot kennel the dog because he has not had a kennel cough vaccine. we found a place that's in our budget, but they won't take him because of missing that, and we don't have enough money to get it done and still pay the kennel fee. I'm ticked because the vet didn't mention that to us as even being an option or possibility, and we were led to believe he had received all his shots period. apparently not. thus far, no one is able to house sit or watch him for the weekend, so we can't even come for the day because there's nobody to walk and feed him in the afternoon/evening. our friends who did it last time wrecked their truck and can't make it to knoxville, and they can't take him @ their place because it's an apartment. ::sigh::
none of my coworkers can watch the dog, nor can any of Rick's, nor can any of our friends. I don't trust my neighbor because she's a total pot head and a bit flaky, and I don't know any of the other neighbors to ask. actually, that's not completely true. one coworker said she'd do it, but her own puppies were dog-napped right out their own backyard last weekend and their old dog got hit by a car. sorry, but I'm not willing to trust her with my dog, ya know? ::growl:: I'm just really ticked because I was totally looking forward to making the whole event this time! any ideas are welcome. if we had a dog house and an outdoor kennel it wouldn't be so much an issue, but we can't afford that right now, and I don't know anyone w/ a fenced yard that doesn't already have dogs who are territorial.
there's also the car issue. if it's not one thing, it's another. Rick's truck finally started to die on us, so we've been car shopping for the last week. he lost 4th gear completely then it came back then it started acting stupid in all gears, so we're afraid to drive it lest it die completely. at least this way we can maybe sell it cheap or get some trade in value. hopefully the guy from the dealership will call today and will have found what we want in our price range, but I'm just beyond holding my breath. oh well. gonna go clean kitchen and fold laundry. maybe we'll get a miracle or two soon. if not I might just cry. frustrated depressed Fer is NOT healthy for those around me. :( |

wow, thanks to help from friends and Rick's parents rescheduling to June we will actually be able to make it this time!! YAY!! thanks to those who've helped us out, you know who you are! ;)
now if we can just find someone to watch the puppy. does anybody in Knoxville area know of a good cheap kennel or puppy sitter. we're really tight on finances just for gas to get out to the event, so I can't really go over about $20-30 total. we would need an evening drop-off Friday and mid-afternoon pickup Sunday. I'm a bit nervous about having strangers come into the house, but I trust my friends of course, so somebody to take him out a few times and feed him and play a bit here at the house is cool if it's someone I know, or I could drop him off w/ a friend if they were willing to puppy sit. we've got plenty of food and tupperware dishes, and he's got his own crate, as well as a playpen for the living room, plenty of toys and treats, collar, harness, and all his shots, and baggies on the leash for easy cleanup. he's a very good sweet boy, just a little hyper as most puppies are. if anybody can do it or recommend someone please lemme know!
thanks! can't wait for Portals! now I'm PSYCHED!! :) - Fer |

hey, if anybody's interested, I've got a couple things up on Craigslist at the moment. will have more to come as we get the basement cleaned out. we're trying to get the money up to buy plants for the garden and paint for the house interior. we need to get the appraisal up as high as possible this summer, so we've been crazy busy doing repairs and landscaping and cleaning and such. if anybody has some spare cash, please clicky links below. just drop me a line if you're interested in any of it and I can remove the listing and set it aside. I don't care to ship stuff out of state, but I'd have to let you know how much the shipping is once I send it. I'm set up on paypal if pickup isn't practical. thanks for looking guys! any help is appreciated!

Clamp-X Volume 1 DVD in Collector Box, new sealed in plastic http://knoxville.craigslist.org/emd/1093462861.html
and finally, something for you TINY Rennie people out there... I almost cried when I ordered this for DragonCon and they shipped the wrong size. I ordered it from a merchant in England and emailed her my measurements and then they refused a refund or exchange unless I was going to pay shipping back and for the replacement which would have been another $30+ on top of the original $85 I paid for it. it's still in the shipping packaging and has never been worn. it's gorgeous, but nowhere near my size, so hopefully one of you tiny peeps might can use it. I hate for it to sit collecting dust if someone can wear it. Renaissance Corset, steel grey-blue with ivory lace http://knoxville.craigslist.org/clo/1093453915.html |

to anyone in Knoxville or wanting to move to Knoxville!!
the company I work for is looking for 2 to 4 more full time permanent long-term employees. if you're looking for stable work at a great company, email me your resume and I'll print it for my boss to call you for an interview! use email addy jennifer.vanderloop@reportsinc.com so I can print it out from my work computer.
starting salary is $8-9/hour depending on experience. call center and/or medical office experience are preferred and will bump you towards the higher starting pay. also, if you have any computer/networking/tech support type experience or management experience be sure to list that too as I know she looks for that. be sure to include at least 3-4 good references because she does call on those, and stable/long work history is a big plus.
job description: outbound calling for medical collections. there is also some inbound call answering as you become comfortable with our system. 99% of our clients are medical providers for past due doctor/hospital bills. our goal is get people on the phone and then convince people to make payment arrangements, even if it's a small amount monthly. we always try to work with people and give them the opportunity to get a debt taken care of. we have criteria that accounts must meet to be deemed "sueable" but we do not ever sue an acct that is current on their promised payments. unlike many god-awful agencies you hear nightmare stories about, we strive to treat people civily and respectfully and with sympathy and we are allowed to and encouraged to hang up on people who are cursing and being verbally abusive to us rather than snip back at them. all our calls are recorded so that we have proof of any threats etc that may come our way, and everyone uses an alias so people can't find us in the phone book. it's a very family-friendly company, and the bosses are very understanding about time off, even unpaid time off, when it comes to family emergencies, car trouble, etc. and I've seen them bend over backwards trying to work with us to fit our needs for scheduling doctor appointments, school schedules, etc. overall, it's a relatively high stress job but a very low stress workplace, so it balances out nicely. everyone is laid back and friendly and we're all a big family basically. I've been there going on 5 years now, and though people have come and gone, I've never seen anyone leave on bad terms, and I've never yet seen them fire anyone. in fact, several former employees have come back over the years to work for us again part time because they missed the company or needed a little extra, and a lot of them still show up at our Christmas parties and such to say hey. the bosses really appreciate a high work ethic and work very hard to earn company loyalty. they are really the best bosses and company I've ever worked for in my life. right now we just need a few more good reliable hard-working people who are in it for the long haul. we are understaffed right now, so if you're even curious to check it out drop me your resume and at least come in for an interview and see what you think! we could REALLY use the help!
benefits: annual paid days off: New Years Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving & Black Friday, and Christmas Day.
vacation time: vacation time is accrued based on actual hours worked. it basically comes out to 1 week paid a year from day 1, elligible to begin taking paid time off after your 90 days is up (if I understand the new system right) and 2 weeks paid per year after you reach the 5 year mark.
insurance: insurance is provided and available, has limited vision, no dental, and I do not believe life ins is offered either but that may have changed. because we have less than 20 employees it's pricey, especially for family coverage, but it's good insurance and covers a lot w/ a relatively low deductible/out of pocket compared to a lot of plans I've seen. the company pays 80% of the premium if I recall right. currently I believe it is still w/ United Healthcare.
bonuses and quotas: currently quotas are being reevaluated, so none of us are really sure on that right now, but they do offer bonus incentives like bonus P.T.O., gift cards, free lunches, etc. we also get a Christmas bonus each year, dependent upon performance, reliability, company profits, and senority. generally it's low for new employees and as you prove yourself you start to see a little more each year. |

planet. fall. tud.
sorry I've fallen off the face of the earth for a bit folks. wow. I got SUCKERED. ::shrug:: one of my coworkers, more to the point, my boss's nephew who's working for us part time after school, asked me if I could help sew costumes for the West High production of Oklahoma, in which he plays Jud, the villian. me, me, oh SILLY me, said sure, no problem, put me in touch w/ your teacher and I'll see what they need help with. ::growl:: now I'm essentially the costume designer, costume mistress, and costuming coordinator ALL wrapped up in one Ferry little stressed-out ball because the director, nice as he is, is queer as a pink three dollar bill and thinks matching costumes would be "FAAABulous!" needless to say,it went from "we'll probly get most of the basic stuff at a thrift store" to "wow, this quilting fabric is really nice" to I now have a cast of 28 girls, a techie who must be costumed for scene changes, and 9 males, all of whom need SOMEthing done. ::Sigh:: and opening night os 10-9-08.
if anyone in Knoxville is willing to help sew I'd love you even more than I already do. currently I have 3 working sewing machines here at the house that we've managed to fix/inherit/replace, and while I get to deal w/ sewing a god-awful-pepto-bismal-pink saloon girl dress for Gertie, I have to personally do Aunt Eller's apron, extend the back of Laurey's top and hem it, put in zippers for both Laurey and Ado Annie's tops, sew faux sleeves into the ballet dresses for Laurey and her ballet double. there is also a man's vest to do for Curly, and a slew of hats to decorate & alter. I also have to find time (while working full time at my real job mind you) to hem/turn/finish and buttonhole 9 ladies' vests (thank gods, rltrlarper's mom has offered to hand-sew the buttons when they're ready). sadly thou, I am having to take in the underarm seams of all 9 a bit as the director today decided they don't hang right. GAR! I told him they weren't going to hang exactly right but he didn't want everyone in aprons. I also need to finish the waistband & hem on one skirt, and sew together, hem, and waistband 3 more skirts that have gussets. fortunately, everything but the man's vest is already cut and ready to sew, but it's damned time consuming. if anyone out there is willing to help out a bit, I have been told I can score you free tickets to the show. I will drop off/pick up projects, or arrange to feed you if you come by! what I really need badly is help w/ the vests and skirts, because they're fairly straight-forward, just time consuming, and require a lot of pins on the skirts and vest hems, which I am going to be needing my own supply of for the pink thing. anything that requires EIGHT YARDS of material is not something I'm terribly looking forward to playing with!
and, to top it all off, the director was supposed to call me tonight when he got the buttons and zippers that I needed to finish the stuff up, and still no word. thoug I seriously doubt he'd have found the seperating zippers at wal-hell 'cause I looked last time I was there and nothing. and only about half the girls have character shoes, and NONE of the guys have boots or cowboy hats, which are a bloody NIGHTMARE to find for cheap btw. Rick and I have loaned out about 6 of our own shirts and such as it is, and only 3 of the 9 men have shirts assigned, or vests, etc. and I'm still missing shirts for 3 girls to go with the TWENTY-FOUR skirts that I had to cut. thank god a couple of mothers are doing those and the FOURTEEN aprons! ye gods. and now he wants the home ec teacher and another parent to make 8 black skirts for the dance chorus in the ballet scene! we haven't even found a shirt for Jud that we can distress yet, nor his suspenders, or a wedding suit for Curly, OR Ali Hakim's ANYthing. Let's not forget the other 2 male speaking parts that need jackets and not vests! EEK! ye GODS what have I gotten myself into?!? and no, before you ask, I am NOT getting paid, as I "volunteerd" before I knew what all was involved. for a $500 costuming budget I didn't feel right charging at the time, but yet gods maybe I should have! on the up side, I get to keep all 6 patterns when I'm done, and the fabric scraps. :)
if anybody out there in Knoxville land would be willing to help w/ vests and skirts, it would be vastly and greatly appreciated! I will be slaving all weekend and probly next weekend on the last minute detail stuff, and every night this week except Monday as we have an appointment w/ our mortgage guy that eve. technically, they are *supposed* to have everything done, including costumes, for tech week, which starts, oh, MONDAY. they didn't spring THAT one on me until today! they are aware that all will not be completely done by then, but dang it I'll do whatever I can. breathing again would be really nice! ::tud:: back to the grind, at least until I pass out! I'll be lucky to have hair left by opening night! |
