Oakwood School (Los Angeles)
Oakwood School is a K-12 co-educational independent day school located in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles, California. Oakwood School was founded in 1951 by parents who wanted to provide their children with an educational experience that was rich in the arts, sciences, and humanities and challenging to their creative, intellectual, and physical capacities.
They wanted a learning community that would foster independence of thought, intellectual integrity, and sensitivity to the needs of others, and prepare students for participation in a democratic society.
Among its founders were Sidney Harmon and Robert Ryan, whose backyard served as the campus for the school's first three years until the North Hollywood campus was finished.[1]
The school consists of two campuses: an elementary school in Studio City,[2] and a secondary school in North Hollywood.[3][4]
