Preston received a wildcard entry for her major debut at the Australian Open[8] but went out in the first round to Elina Svitolina.[9]

In February, she reached her first WTA 125 final at Puerto Vallarta in Mexico, losing in three sets to McCartney Kessler.[10] Later that month at the San Diego Open, having been given a wildcard entry, she defeated world No. 42, Magdalena Fręch, to win her first Tour-level match and also her first against a player ranked in the WTA top 50.[11][12] She lost her next match to sixth seed Marta Kostyuk.[13]
