Toby Fox potential FA co-nomination
[edit]Hi @1timeuse75, I brought up in Toby Fox's talk page that I wanted to know if there were any FA plans for the article, and I found out you were its GA nominator. I wanted to know if, in the future, you'd be interested in co-nominating the article after some extensive work.
The article could benefit from a deeper source hunt (I'm already aware of a good amount not being used) so I'd be fine doing most of the writing work, and you could proofread & contribute at your leisure. Roberta Williams is a good frame of reference here.
Toby's article could reasonably get to ~2,500-3,000 words just by pure estimate, which would be way easier to justify than the current 1,388 (which I'm pretty sure doesn't include works). I haven't actually had an FA (though I've done work around that level, without going into too much detail) and this would be a fun project for me.
Let me know if you're interested. WALKKKKK (talk) 01:08, 28 August 2026 (UTC)
- I have a draft up on my profile in case you want an idea of the writing overhaul. WALKKKKK (talk) 08:12, 28 August 2026 (UTC)
- @WALKKKKK: Hiya, sorry for the delay, I'm still trying to process that pixel perfect Sanic photo you showed me. /j
- I've mentioned this before but I'm currently not very comfortable with interacting with any FAs, so I'll won't co-nom with you, sorry. However I will be happy to try and help you with everything else!
- If you do co-nom with someone, your best bet is with Monathephantom (which you've already contacted).
- Getting Fox's article to Feature status will probably be very tricky (tony, sorry I had to). For example, how are you gonna write a "comprehensive" biography of someone who's very private? I have no idea how you can expand and overhaul the "personal life" section anymore then how it currently is. Another reason is that if the article gets promoted, it will be the shortest FA video game biography ever, meaning there a lot more pressure to make sure everythings perfect. I still think it will be possible to do it though.
- Doing a quick look at your draft, it's overall very good and has potential! Here's some of my critiques from my quick read though I did: As you know, normal, everything in an article is in chronological order. So it's a bit weird going from him graduating, (which happened in 2014) to his 2011 fever dream right after. I feel like attributing the arrays article as his main inspiration is a bit over exaggerated. At best you can say it was his main inspiration for the gameplay of Undertale, but I'll have to do a deep dive into the development to see how it could be changed.
- I will eventually take a full look at the draft and try to help expand it but do to personal reasons I can't do that until Monday. Until then I hope you found this somewhat helpful! Bye for now!
- (P.S. not a huge fan for your crop of Fox's portrait but oh well!)
- Cheers 1timeuse75 (talk) 20:48, 28 August 2026 (UTC)
- Just going through everything:
- 1) Go fst
- 2) That's fine, it's likely I'll nominate solo unless someone else comes along. I'd like to ask for you to contribute wherever possible (sourcing, proofreading, etc.) if you're able.
- 3) I'm taking it into consideration.
- 4) Contrary to what Toby says about interviewing, he's actually done dozens of in-depth interviews on specific topics which can be combined together. Especially in Japanese, which is taking a lot of machine translating and Jisho work to get accurate. With the pace I'm keeping right now, I'd argue it'll be around the size of Roberta Williams' page at 3,160 words, but far shorter than Satoru Iwata's page at 6,493 words. Those are actually the only two FA video game biographies right now.
- 5) Thanks, the thing about him graduating is something I want to point out: it's actually completely unsourced in the article. Anywhere I've found mentioning him having a bachelor's, or studying environmental science, or even graduating from 2014 is not from a reliable source. The Boston Globe is reputable enough that I can get him being a graduate of Northeastern out of the way, but that's it. I include his brothers (due to Toby's mentions of them), but not his parents (only covered by New Hampshire Union Leader, which is bordering on doxxing anyway.) I will say that the December 2012 conception story from Toby is very consistent and will likely stay as-is.
- 6) This'll probably be in development for some time but I'd be happy to see you contribute at some point.
- 7) Cope

- Ohh okay, now I get it. 1timeuse75 (talk) 15:26, 29 August 2026 (UTC)

- About the "comprehensive biography about someone is very private" argument, I would like to respectfully disagree. Infact, it might be even easier to get a article like Toby Fox to FA level since every information relating to him has already been covered in the article. There isn't a limit to how long articles have to be in order to get FA level, take a article like Miss Meyers for example, the section about her early life is only like 3 paragraphs. I believe the citeria for comprehensiveness has already been reached since everything is already documented. Monathephantom (talk) 11:31, 29 August 2026 (UTC)
- @Monathephantom Yeah, that's a good point! 1timeuse75 (talk) 11:41, 29 August 2026 (UTC)
- @1timeuse75 I added a talk page section to the draft where you can comment in, just posting since I saw the comment without a signature. WALKKKKK (talk) 23:44, 31 August 2026 (UTC)
- Just going through everything:
- @1timeuse75 I think we need to revisit this. I've done some research into the FAC nomination process, and you don't really have to do anything other than reply to nominator feedback (which I can do on your behalf). I believe, personally, with you having the highest edit count by a long shot & the highest authorship of the current contributors, that it only makes sense to co-nominate with you. You are the Good Article nominator. I'll be the main nominator based on mostly authorship alone, but consider this more a "credit to the team" sort of thing that you don't have to feel pressured by instead of a genuine obligation. WALKKKKK (talk) 16:16, 2 September 2026 (UTC)
- Uh, actually you have number one authorship. 1timeuse75 (talk) 16:30, 2 September 2026 (UTC)
- I meant other than me. WALKKKKK (talk) 16:32, 2 September 2026 (UTC)
- Sorry, I still don't feel confident in nominating any FA article, sorry. Uh, message user:paul2520? 1timeuse75 (talk) 16:37, 2 September 2026 (UTC)
- Paul doesn't seem to be doing much outside of the backend and I haven't had any interaction with them yet. That's a shame, though, I feel like it's a potential free star for the work you've already put in. WALKKKKK (talk) 16:48, 2 September 2026 (UTC)

- Is the FAC being nominated now? Monathephantom (talk) 16:41, 2 September 2026 (UTC)
- No I meant in general. I don't want to nominate any article (yet). 1timeuse75 (talk) 16:45, 2 September 2026 (UTC)
- 1timeuse75 & WALKKKKK: yeah, I only appear as a major contributor since I ran IABot on Fox's article.
- I just skimmed the conversation above. I could be interested to help... I haven't been involved in this process before, but would like to (and why not for this article). Let me know if it's as simple as replying to nominator feedback & where that is. = paul2520 💬 12:34, 3 September 2026 (UTC)

It's Monday
[edit]"I can't do that until Monday." It's Monday. I have a lot to say, so much that I'll give my comments tomorrow. See you then. (How the fuck did I forget the signature?)
- @WALKKKKK: While i am aware about the comment section on the talk page, I have a lot of questions i want to ask and i don't want to clog up the section with a really long comment, so enjoy this one instead!
- 1) How does the "Free space" work exactly? What does "create one named after yourself" mean?
- 2) Not sure how the your new image is "mathematically centered" but it clearly isn't. See also: Rule of thirds
- 3) How is Smash Bros not mentioned? In this Game Informer interview he said it's his most played game. Personally, I would recommend listening to the whole thing if you haven't already. Couldn't find any other articles (in English at least) that talk about his competitive Smash history.
- 4) Dose "Starmen.net" have to be it's own subsection? Personally I would remove the header and have it as one big section.
- 5) In this Hardcore Gaming 101 artcle, it says "It’s not hard to see why Toby Fox looks back on this poorly." This is the closest thing i could find (In English) that mentions this. (It's also technically the closest we have for "Sans Is Ness" being mention in a reliable source)
- 6) Found a source for him studying environmental science: "The Power of Gaming: A Journey Through The World Of Gaming And How It Enhances Us" (2025) pp. 390 "We know he studied Environmental Scince in college, [...]" still no year tho.
- 7) Undertale is also considered to have one of the best video games soundtracks of all time, I think this should be mentioned as-well as the awards and nominations.
- 8) Maybe you should mark the sections that are still progress. Just to make things more clear.
- 9) From the original article "He also became a contributor to the A Profound Waste of Time magazine.[1]" this and his "Secret Base" column could be merged together. I think?
- 10) Don't link both Clyde Mandelin and Mother 3 fan translation, since they both lead to the same place. Same with Kikiyama and Yume Nikki.
- 11) Random idea to expand the article some more: A "Style" section where it discusses the themes in his work. I will attempt making it, once I figure out the "free space"! Looking at other articles, like David Lynch (former featured article candidate), It has a "Filmmaking approach" section with subsections for his Style, Themes, and most interesting, Influences. Do you think its a good idea to have the Influences as a subsection?
- 12) Should the "translate his game's into other languages" situation be mention? Here are some sources [1][2][3][4]. And hey look! Number 4 also mentions that he's "a very private person, hiding his face from the internet, only doing occasional interviews, and having a relatively restrained social media presence." That could be helpful. It can also replace the god-awful New Hampshire Union Leader article in the personal life section.
Okay I'm done. After you've answered my questions, I'll start work on the "Style" section i mention earlier. BTW, by merging the section to mainspace, you are now currently have number one authorship! Anyway, go fst.1timeuse75 (talk) 09:11, 1 September 2026 (UTC)
- Adding onto the soundtrack part, should the Undertale concerts (which i'm coincidentally also bringing to Featured status) be mentioned here? He has commented about the concerts before IIRC. Monathephantom (talk) 12:14, 1 September 2026 (UTC)
- @Monathephantom IMO, it should be at least mentioned. 1timeuse75 (talk) 12:17, 1 September 2026 (UTC)
- Alright, so:
- 1) It's just blank space to allow parts of the article (infobox & images) to not get in the way. I wanted the full width of the article to write "Early life" in since I figure a revamped lead will reach near the bottom of the infobox in length.
- 2) To avoid MAAAATH, there's an asymmetrical spatial weight (head vs. face) from Toby's slight right-facing posture that's perfectly counterbalanced by the geometric equilibrium from the chosen centering (his eyebag), and the left & right sides of his head are aligned pixel-perfect. I also thought the composition would suck if he were too low.
- 3) It will be, section's not near finished yet.
- 4) I actually plan to expand the Starmen.net section more than it is now, since it's a pretty relevant part of his upbringing with enough documentation. I'd argue it's only relevant to his early life outside of the forum's founder founding Fangamer (which will be a separate thing), so it's pretty self-contained.
- 5) If there's another/a Japanese source where he mentions it in a bad light, I'd prefer to use that instead.
- 6) The thing I don't like about these books I've been seeing is I feel they're pretty much "bookslop" that copies info from Wikipedia, especially Corentin Benoit-Gonin's book which very obviously does that, which is currently used in mainspace. I'd much prefer this sort of thing be independently verifiable, or left out if it isn't.
- 7) I plan to include this.
- 8) I can do that.
- 9) Completely separate times & scenes, the Famitsu stuff is way higher-profile & fits under a larger Japanese-themed section. I'll still include APWoT if I can find a good source for it.
- 10) I was under the impression people did this, since I've seen it a good amount on high-level articles. I can edit that.
- 11) "Style" would better fit under the wider "Influences" umbrella for a video game developer. Looking at Lynch's section, that's basically the equivalent anyway.
- 12) Yes, I plan to include this. I'm only using the NHUL article for citing his Manchester birth place and siblings, so unfortunately it'll stay for that.
- I'm also going to hotlink the Undertale concerts article somewhere in that section. WALKKKKK (talk) 16:22, 1 September 2026 (UTC)
- I'm realizing I misread 1), it's just that I mostly want to work in the draft's main text and I don't want there to be editing conflicts if others are too (has already happened a few times) so if people want to do edits, they can copy formatting into their own section & it can be merged accordingly. WALKKKKK (talk) 16:40, 1 September 2026 (UTC)
- @WALKKKKK Let me check if i got this right. Let's say i write that "Style" section. Would i have to put it under the "Free Space" header, and then it'll be merged in to the main draft? 1timeuse75 (talk) 16:46, 1 September 2026 (UTC)
- You could do it like this:
- == Free space ==
- == 1timeuse75 ==
- === Style ===
- or like this:
- == Free space ==
- === 1timeuse75 ===
- ==== Style ====
- Anything that you want to contribute or work on can be in your section, and you can copy parts of the main text if you need them as a frame of reference. WALKKKKK (talk) 16:50, 1 September 2026 (UTC)
