Acronym frequencies
[edit]I processed the past ~year of ANI threads to get the most commonly cited acronym'd pages. Here's the first several results:
Extended content |
|---|
1146 WP:NOTHERE 574 WP:CIR 365 WP:OR 348 WP:RS 318 WP:AGF 283 WP:NPA 281 WP:BATTLEGROUND 268 WP:BOOMERANG 263 WP:BLP 255 WP:IDHT 243 WP:ASPERSIONS 239 WP:OWN 233 WP:NPOV 200 WP:AIV 198 WP:V 194 WP:CIVIL 192 WP:BRD 188 WP:3RR 172 WP:SPI 162 WP:ANI 160 WP:COI 158 WP:SYNTH 120 WP:ONUS 118 WP:SPA 110 WP:ROPE |
WP:IAR appeared at rank 78 with 41 mentions (plus 3 as WP:IGNORE) and WP:GNG appeared at rank 60 with 51 mentions. Some caveats for this are that this counts, for example, wp:competence and wp:cir as different. It only counts actual links. And I used an extremely simple regex that tried to not include acronyms that "shouldn't count", like linking to a discussion that has an acronym in the title. A parser would be much better. But I guess it's good enough for a first approximation. closhund/talk/ 09:23, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- Fantastic work @Closhund. The caveat about counting links to the same page differently is a benefit given the question at hand, which is what a user might see the most. A new user would likely not know wp:competence and wp:cir lead to the same place for example. Understandable that CIVIL is higher than CIV. The environment of AN/I definitely showing through in those top ones. CMD (talk) 09:33, 7 January 2026 (UTC)

Please can you help me create a Wikipedia Article about "Benjamin Angeles"?
[edit]Good morning @Chipmunkdavis, please can you help me create a dedicated Wikipedia Article about "Benjamin Angeles"? He is known as a Filipino Singer-songwriter on google search. Please help me. Thank you! ~2026-25403 (talk) 02:53, 9 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hi @~2026-25403, does Benjamin Angeles have coverage in sources such as newspapers? If there are at least 3 in depth profiles or something like that, that makes it much easier to make an article. CMD (talk) 03:25, 9 January 2026 (UTC)

January–February 2026 NPP drive - Phase 2
[edit]
Welcome to Phase 2 of the January–February 2026 NPP drive. During Phase 1, we reviewed 16,658 articles and 4,416 redirects, and there is currently a backlog of 16,475 articles and 23,782 redirects in the queue. Fantastic job! Completing 22,502 patrols in the first phase made a significant dent in the backlog. Let's keep our foot on the gas for Phase 2, and I hope we can achieve even more reviews than Phase 1. Best of luck!

On GAN
[edit]Hi Chipmunkdavis! As mentioned at WT:GAN#Questionable review?, I find the competence of the GAN reviewer to be somewhat questionable. Since I am planning to promote the article to FA, I was hoping to receive constructive feedback during the GAN stage to improve the article before submitting it for further reviews, and the current situation concerns and worries me deeply. I am not sure what to do at this point. Should I ask for a third opinion, or is there anything I can do to help Roblox navigate the GAN process properly? I look forward to your advice and thank you very much! —👑PRINCE of EREBOR📜 14:56, 18 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, I left a message on their talkpage earlier today, the best thing to do for them is give advice over time. Regarding preparing for FA, your process is understandable, but I would move on to a WP:PR where you reach out to relevant active WikiProjects and perhaps FA mentors. That process can elicit much more specific advice regarding what is needed for FAC. CMD (talk) 15:45, 18 February 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for reaching out to Roblox and discussing the issue with them! Yes, I will definitely submit the article for PR later, but since in my previous GA reviews, all the reviewers were very meticulous and provided a lot of constructive feedback that helped me improve the articles, and I originally thought I could benefit from their input again as I prepare for my potential first FA. I have left some advice for Roblox and will try to guide him through the GAN, but if any issues arise, would you mind providing a fresh pair of eyes or a third opinion? Many thanks!! —👑PRINCE of EREBOR📜 04:38, 19 February 2026 (UTC)

Appreciation for your approach
[edit]Thank you for helping ground discussions in relevant policies and sourcing considerations. I appreciate you taking the time to link guidelines and explain the reasoning behind concerns. This type of educational-approach helps uplift members of the community.
Redirecting debates between editors toward concrete issues like sourcing expectations makes it much easier for editors like myself to understand how to improve contributions. Your approach is a great example of keeping discussions constructive, respectful, and policy-driven.
Thanks again, keep up the great work! Jpstrommen95 (talk) 04:25, 11 March 2026 (UTC)

- Hi Femke, do you mean Template:User new message? That is a template that hasn't changed since the ancient days of 2005. About State of Singapore
[edit]I agree that it can be shortened by history and could be regarded as an extension of 'Colony of Singapore'. But I think it can be developed as independent article, because there are numerous other examples like Dominion of Fiji or State of Malta. Although it was 4-year- entity, I think we can make some cooperation with other users from Singapore and Malaysia to improve articles about State of Singapore and Singapore in Malaysia. NZ Bunnies (talk) 04:17, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
- Please keep the exiting discussion together. It's always possible to say an article could be developed, but this one has not been. Splitting a tiny article into two tiny articles only removes context from readers. CMD (talk) 05:45, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
- I agree with your view, and I would take that advise. You want to say it is too early to split the article, because contents of 'Colony of Singapore' itself hasn't enough volume. I'll try to start the work right now. Thank you for your reply. I think I know what I should do next. NZ Bunnies (talk) 09:51, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
- It's not just about being early, how does it help a reader? The current article covers a coherent historical period. Before a split, it shoudl be clear how the new articles would help reader understanding. CMD (talk) 10:26, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

- Hello, this is an unusual first edit. If you are related to other TAs, it would be helpful if you create an account. That edit summary contains no personal attacks. I'm unaware of AndyTheGrump reentering a month-old discussion solely to castigate other editors, but if they did it would also not be an advisable practice. CMD (talk) 01:51, 5 June 2026 (UTC)

[edit]Speaking of 5-year protections, any comments on Soleil Moon Frye? It was repeatedly vandalized by IPs who didn't believe that a daughter could be named Jagger Joseph. The protection lapsed a while back with no resumption of vandalism, but I just wanted to follow up without actually making it a question you felt you had to answer. - @SarekOfVulcan Weird, just a couple of days ago I was watching a video where Punky Brewster was mentioned, and now this question appears. Maybe Punky Brewster is always being discussed near me and I just haven't noticed it until now? As to the situation, with the caveat I don't know too much about the topic, that seems to have been a successful unprotection in that it was followed by IP edits which at a quick spot check look well-intentioned. Group-IB
[edit]Hi Chipmunkdavis, I'm working to update content on the Group-IB article. I see that you are involved in WP:Singapore, and since the company relocated to Singapore in 2019, I'm hoping you'll be interested in this edit request: Talk:Group-IB#Updates_to_page.
The request didn't draw any objections, so I went ahead and made the edits myself. They were then reverted, and I now understand that direct edits by an editor with a conflict of interest are not allowed. Would you be willing to review the request and update the article? Thank you, DL02042024 (talk) 09:03, 14 July 2026 (UTC)
- I have reactivated the edit request template, so the edit is now back in the queue. CMD (talk) 23:40, 17 July 2026 (UTC)
Egypt article's edit request
[edit]Hello Chipmunkdavis,
Thank you very much for reviewing my edit request on Talk: Egypt. I am positive the lead paragraph can do better than its current form. I would appreciate it if you could let me know what’s needed to finalize this edit. Thank you. Pyramidslover (talk) 20:24, 17 July 2026 (UTC)
- Hi @Pyramidslover, I believe the feedback I gave on Talk:Egypt remains relevant. More broadly, the history parts of the lead need to be contracted, so the expansion is heading in the wrong direction. The addition about Egyptian Arabic is unsourced, not in the article, and unclear in meaning. CMD (talk) 23:41, 17 July 2026 (UTC)
- The Egyptian Arabic is mentioned in the infobox of the article. Why is adding certain information about history considered a wrong direction, please explain? The added phrases are summarized and must be mentioned in my point of view. Pyramidslover (talk) 09:14, 18 July 2026 (UTC)
- The lead as it stands is more than half history, taking away significant space from covering the existing country. CMD (talk) 09:29, 18 July 2026 (UTC)
- Yes, you're right. However, I'm certain that when discussing ancient Egypt, we should refer to the Old, Middle, and New Kingdoms. The same applies to medieval history. I was simply careful to add the headings I noticed were missing. Pyramidslover (talk) 09:39, 18 July 2026 (UTC)
- Hello Chipmunkdavis, I’ve summarized the additions again, with some corrections. Please review. Thank you Pyramidslover (talk) 01:05, 21 July 2026 (UTC)
- Please provide feedback, and comments (if any) to help me finalize the edits. Thank you. Pyramidslover (talk) 01:08, 21 July 2026 (UTC)

- Yes, I know, I edited the proposed edits after your comments. Please review them in the comments. Thanks Pyramidslover (talk) 09:54, 22 July 2026 (UTC)
- I replied there that the lead was not the place to add new information and sources. I mentioned above that the Egyptian Arabic sentence is added and unsourced. I have also noted that the history portion needs contracting, not expanding. I'm not sure what you are asking me to review anew given these comments would still apply to the new version. CMD (talk) 13:48, 22 July 2026 (UTC)
- The Egyptian Arabic is already mentioned in the article's infobox as the national language. As for contracting, I’ve actually tried to do this before in a previous version and was also rejected. If you agree to delete excessive text, I can propose the version I did before. Please advise. Thanks Pyramidslover (talk) 05:26, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
- Article infoboxes are not WP:Reliable sources. I don't have unilateral power over the article, I responded to an edit request. I'm not familiar with your previous proposals, but Ssometimes changes are accepted by others, sometimes they are not. This happens all the time, it's not something to worry too much about. Articles for Creation backlog drive
[edit]
Hello Chipmunkdavis:
WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive in August!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than a month of outstanding reviews from the current 3+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 August 2026 through 31 August 2026.
You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.
Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.
There is a backlog of over 5000 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:37, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
- If you wish to opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself from the mailing list or alternatively to opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery to your user talk page.
This user has a history of owning the article Guards (Singapore Army) and has been trying to defend it against me ever since I reverted them once for making unsourced additions
I'd appreciate it if you could block them; they went on a hiatus following their one-month block for edit-warring and have recently returned to continue owning the article (they also committed mass-revert vandalism against me; see User talk:Robertsky § Before I get myself reblocked...) Hey Fix this too!
[edit]The 2020-2021 Thai protests stemmed from democratic and economic regression since the 2014 Thai coup d'état and encompassed issues such as human rights abuses, political corruption scandals, distrust of the 2019 general election, expansion of royal prerogative and lèse-majesté.
The protests, including calls for constitutional amendment, ultimately failed after a "severe" state of emergency was declared in Bangkok from 15 to 22 October 2020 with the street protests largely dying down. The Thai government created an unelected House of Lords and the Constitutional Court ruled that proposing a reform of the monarchy is unconstitutional and amounts to acting to overthrow it. ~2026-42818-28 (talk) 12:54, 4 August 2026 (UTC)

Failure to ascertain good faith on Singapore
[edit]You have failed to miss two important points. First, assuming good faith is not a rule that overrides all other considerations or requires editors to disregard the available evidence and editing history. Second, the earlier versions of these Singapore-related football articles had been heavily vandalised and needed considerable cleanup. The edits therefore need to be assessed against the actual state of the articles beforehand, rather than as though they were made to clean and stable pages. ~2026-43096-42 (talk) 13:01, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, I am not sure what either of these points has to do with any of my recent activities. CMD (talk) 13:45, 6 August 2026 (UTC)

Good article nominations RfC
[edit]Hi Chipmunkdavis,
There is an ongoing Request for Comment (RfC) at Wikipedia:Good article nominations/August 2026 RfC, which you may be interested in because in the past year, you have nominated or reviewed more than one good article nomination. This message has also been sent to all subscribers to the Good Article Gazette. The RfC contains many proposals (33 at the time of writing), which are split into the following categories: nominators, reviewers, reviews, volunteer roles, reviewing initiatives, and others. However, you are more than welcome to add any proposals of your own that you wish to put to the community.
By the end of September, all the proposals will have been closed by an uninvolved editor, either as a consensus for one of the options or with no consensus. At this point, editors will be invited again to develop these proposals into coherent policy and implement them.
Thank you for your contributions to the good articles project, and I look forward to your input! (in solidarity), JacobTheRox(talk|contributions) 16:02, 11 August 2026 (UTC)

AI allegations
[edit]What made you certain that this edit was generated by an LLM? wound theology◈ 09:49, 17 August 2026 (UTC)
- It's very clear AI writing, reinforced by multiple WP:AITELLS. (There is now also the sarcastic confirmation.) CMD (talk) 13:25, 17 August 2026 (UTC)
- Can you point out what the AI tells are? wound theology◈ 15:57, 17 August 2026 (UTC)
- There's a particular tone and flow to that comment that is stereotypically LLMy; in the way it writes as an essay with a lot of adjectives, and how it likes to hedge around its conclusion. Read enough AI comments and the pattern is quite plain (although it likely shifts with particular models). "So the underlying history is certainly real: inter-Pueblo alliance, independence, and powerful leaders." is a particularly indicative sentence, it is a Rule of three (writing) that for some reason sums up the very paragraph it's in, in a very uncommon way for people to do. After that the next two sentences are both WP:AIPARALLELisms. CMD (talk) 16:23, 17 August 2026 (UTC)

How would you have prompted?
[edit]I ask this purely out of curiosity, as your comment mentioned there are better ways to prompt. Admittedly, Gemini is a weaker AI to use for such requests. When testing, I found ChatGPT and Grok were actually much better at generating what would be expected. By the way, whatever outcome this RfC has will be good for absolute clarification. As you pointed out, citations aren't technically "article content" so having complete clarity on this specific point I think is crucial, especially for a developing guideline. 11WB 💬 12:24, 27 August 2026 (UTC)
- From my anecdotal experimentation, I've had the most success when dropping the relevant blank template into the LLM as guidance, and asking it to fill those fields using the information provided. I've generally also provided the information by copy pasting the relevant information from the source, but it might work by asking it to assess a url itself. The using the information provided clause seems crucial to greatly reduce hallucinations, or even made-up parameters. You can add specific additional instructions to this, such as the desired presentation of author names, the use of en dashes in page ranges, etc. This double guardrail setup seems to prevent most hallucination, although page numbers still seem to get made up frequently (presumably it draws from some other number somehow?). There is also sometimes the switching of information between fields (eg. mixing up title with chapter, mixing up chapter-url with url), and getting the date wrong (another number confusion?). CMD (talk) 13:32, 27 August 2026 (UTC)
- Interesting. Based on your reading of NOLLM, would you say using AI to generate inline citations is already permissible, due to citations not being considered content? If that is the case, this RfC does function as a way to close the lid on that ambiguity. 11WB 💬 13:35, 27 August 2026 (UTC)
- Our policies do not create binaries between banned and permissible. "generate" is itself not quite clear, and includes a scale of use. I get different results for example, with a looser prompt along the lines of "generate a Wikipedia citation from this", than I do when using the more refined process above. Is the refined process is a sort of copyediting of the pre-provided information instead of generating? Maybe. Trying to recall case law, I don't think we've ever had anyone banned for formatting citations with LLMs alone, but we have had many cases with LLM citations having incorrect information that were indicators of larger problems. CMD (talk) 13:44, 27 August 2026 (UTC)
- The lack of binaries is in my opinion a problem. Every loophole that can be exploited ultimately leads to a worse Wikipedia. Either AI can be trusted with completing a task, or it can't. It can be argued that the output of the AI is only as good as the human inputting the prompt, but the result, in this case, ends up on Wikipedia regardless. That's what the guideline aims to prevent. Personally, I see little room for error with citations, but I opened the RfC with the expectation of probable unanimous opposition. It answers the question either way. 11WB 💬 13:52, 27 August 2026 (UTC)
