Articles for Creation backlog drive

[edit]

Hello EatingCarBatteries:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive in August!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than a month of outstanding reviews from the current 3+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 August 2026 through 31 August 2026.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.
There is a backlog of over 5000 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:37, 19 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Secrecy Studies page rejected for AI use? No AI was used!

[edit]
Collapser note: Question moot. Rejected on other grounds alone. 海盐沙冰 / aka irisChronomia / Talk 11:45, 28 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Yes, when I queried the AI-use label they switched to rejecting it on other grounds. It feels very hostile and unfounded. Archive-runner (talk) 11:56, 28 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Note that editors are volunteers and don't necessarily have the time and energy to respond to your every needs. 海盐沙冰 / aka irisChronomia / Talk 12:07, 28 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm not asking them to respond to my 'every need' but if they/an editor makes an edit, it should be fairly justified and subject to challenge as per wikipedia's own policies. This isn't supposed to be about the exercise of arbitrary power. Editors should be called up for bad practice, just like everyone else on here. Archive-runner (talk) 12:10, 28 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Okay, what you're trying to create should likely be addition / merge request to the article Sociological aspects of secrecy instead of a new one. It's also unclear how, afterall, the term "secrecy study" is notable enough to warrant its own article. It does not seem to be a specialized field, but instead as a topic for sociology. While we appreciate citations from reputable journals, since Wikipedia is not an academic journal, articles that are backed up solely by academic journals without any signs of notability from mainstream sources are hard to have their notability justified - Wikipedia's inclusion criteria is very stringent, afterall. 海盐沙冰 / aka irisChronomia / Talk 12:24, 28 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Draft - Latch Wales

[edit]

Don't you think it's very reckless to just delete an article because it's missing a couple sources? Why not just add a tag to say needs more citations. Please help me understand why you've done this to me, this is heartbreaking. The draft says it could take a month to be reviewed. Just because of problem that was fixed with a few google searches and the tap of a button Edlectro28 (talk) 09:10, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi!
I didn't delete the article - I moved it to draftspace, where I see you improved it drastically. I did this after the article was alive for 10 hours, to allow any immediate improvements to it.
Simply put, Wikipedia has an article inclusion criteria that we dub "notability", specifically the "general notability guideline". An article needs to have, to quote, "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." As a general rule of thumb, three separate sources that meed all of these guidelines means a topic is worthy of an article. This is a form of quality control to make sure that articles are covered in a balanced way, and to prevent anyone from just writing about any miniscule thing.
At the time of "draft-ification", your article had three sources, two of which were directly connected with Latch (not being independent), and the other being the UK charity registration portal (not providing significant coverage, i.e. lots of material to base an article on).
I wouldn't worry about the draft sitting for too long. There has recently been a backlog drive at Articles for Creation (AfC) where many drafts were dealt with. Though to be fair, I do agree that 1 month is too long. We're always itching for new people, given Wikipedia's volunteer nature.
Finally, an important note, is that the whole draft process is optional. If you want, at any time, you can remove your page from the process by clicking the "Move" button on the menu bar in the right side, moving it to the article "area" of Wikipedia. That being said, that doesn't mean that someone in the future won't do something with the article, like nominating it for deletion or further draftification - this whole process is just to guarantee that your article will be kept on Wikipedia.
Sorry for the long response. I hope this cleared some things up. Let me know if you have any further questions! EatingCarBatteries (contribs | talk) 18:45, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hey thank you for explaining! Most people never do! Edlectro28 (talk) 19:07, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Save America Movement

[edit]

Hi there - I may have misunderstood your directions and am concerned about my recent update of the article. I also converted two sources added as a notation earlier, as references. Figured that the update might be enough to satisfy the notability issue, so i removed some tags and published, thinking that would take the article out of the draft status, triggering the next review by you to approve that change and hopefully, remove the draft status. Seems that is incorrect, as the draft status remains in the title and no review for the change is visible... obviously, need further direction please —— 83d40m (talk) 00:49, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

User:EatingCarBatteries Would it be possible to remove the draft status now? ——83d40m (talk) 13:00, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi, I'm sorry for the late reply and how drawn out this process has been for you.
As it stands, going off of the decline reason that TNM101 posted, you still need more independent sources.
Most of the sources are directly from or affiliated with SAM or its members (such as the press release published via PRNewsWire). The Politico one feature is really good - if you have more of that type of coverage you'll be all set.
If you want to, you can always click the blue "submit for review" button. Additionally, you can always click the "Publish now" button which will publish the article, but there is no guarantee that the article won't end up right back where it started. What is best way to save before publishing

[edit]

Hi,

'm back and have some time to start editing this a little more. I would ike to understand the best way to save changes I make without publishing them.

In terms of providing URLS to book and newspapers, this is virtually impossble as I would have to pay to sign up to newspaper accounts. In addition, not all documents or books are available online - just in libraries or archives. The references for these articles are as they would be in an academic paper or book.

Please advise before I start editing again. I don't want to mess this up. the rules just seem so complicated! Kwakwaka (talk) 20:49, 29 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Welcome back.
The best way to save your page is to literally click the blue "Publish changes" button. Despite the name, it doesn't actually make it an article - to do that, you would need to click the "Move" button in the toolbar on the right of the screen. You'll know it's a draft as long as the title contains the word "Draft:"
Wikipedia's core idea is verifiability. Everything that is published here needs to be able to be verified, if someone tries hard enough. What this means is that offline sources are totally fine - I left the comment only because it makes it easier for people to find them. I more so meant a digital identifier (like an ISBN, ISSN, or DOI).
If you can't access it, you could see if your local library has some newspaper service. Though there is no saying how timely it will be, you could fill out the form at Wikipedia:Resource support pilot to request access to sources which you don't have. I also have access to the The Wikipedia Library which gives me access to stuff like newspapers.com. If you tell me where exactly to look, I could get some resources for you. Hey EatingCarBatteries, thank you for your nomination! Just a heads-up that your nominee appears to use she/her pronouns, which you might want to correct. There's a variety of user scripts and templates that show you what pronouns someone has set in their preferences; for example, {{they}} ({{they|EatingCarBatteries}} → he).
