Gordie Howe Bridge

Thank you for your message re the Geordie Howe bridge. Does the presence of a huge concrete bridge that took ten years to build and is verifiable by using your eyes need a ‘source’? Maurice Richard

Hey, I tried bringing this up on the talk page but I didn't see a reply there. I'll put my thoughts here so you can see why I had reverted initially. I copied most of it but added a bit.

MOS:NICK says "in addition to a given name" meaning nicknames can go in the opening even if they also go by the given name.

and doing it this way also follows the MOS given example of:

Nicknames should not be represented with additional name parts unless necessary for usage clarity.
Use: Earl "the Pearl" Strickland; or: Earl Strickland, nicknamed "Earl the Pearl"
Avoid: Earl Strickland, nicknamed "Earl the Pearl" Strickland

Because some people just say "the Rocket" but some people also go "Rocket Richard" I think it's better to have it as Maurice "Rocket" Richard.

Because Rocket appears in so many highly reputable places, like the HOF plaque, The Quebec government historic figure recognition plaque, even Government of Canada public service press releases find it important to call him Maurice “Rocket” Richard. Considering MOS:BIOALTNAME Says "Nicknames and other aliases included must be frequently used by reliable sources in reference to the subject." I think National Governments and the Hockey Hall of Fame are fairly reliable sources that are using this name.

As well you cite MOS:Nick saying: "Nicknames are not included in the bold font of the first sentence unless in the title of the biography"

But there is no mention of it there, and the examples there show the standard is the opposite. The given examples of Earl the Pearl and Al Capone/Scarface KEEP them bolded in the opening.

Chicago Steel

It is normal to list the metropolitan area in which a sports team plays in. There is no source to give a source when it comes to that, most people will know from the name of the team which area or city they play in. Burgerolivealpha1 (talk) 23:41, 9 September 2026 (UTC)
