2026 tourneys

I've actually been very busy with some real world things (jobsearching, a surgery, and I'm starting a new job tomorrow), so haven't really had time or headspace for much.

@Kante4: Sorry, was so busy IRLing, forgot about this thread. Let's see what we can dig up:

• 2026 Algarve Cup - seems the tournament hasn't happened since 2022 - Google/AI suggests due to scheduling conflicts with UEFA Nations League. makes sense
• 2026 Arnold Clark Cup
• 2026 Cyprus Women's Cup Can't find anything and still have on their website popup: Tournament will not take place in 2025, due to new UEFA-schedule for national teams.
• 2026 Pinatar Cup
• 2026 Pink Ladies Cup
• 2026 SheBelieves Cup & 2026 SheBelieves Cup squads - announced with USA, Argentina, Canada, Colombia
• 2026 Turkish Women's Cup
• 2026 International Women's Championship

• There is 2026 FIFA Series#Women though, with Brazil, Canada, South Korea, Zambia, Ivory Coast, Mauritania, Pakistan, Turks and Caicos (didn't know they even have a women's team!), DR Congo, Nepal, Thailand, and TBC OFC team. Short descriptions

You objected to my recent edits to 2020–21 in Australian soccer, and several similarly-titled articles. As per WP:SDNONE, "some article titles are sufficiently self-explanatory to English language speakers worldwide that a descriptive annotation would not be helpful. Such articles can be given the short description 'none'." In my opinion, the "[year] in Australian soccer" articles meet that criterion. — LucasBrown 01:55, 24 February 2026 (UTC)

The annotation added the number of season it is, which is a useful thing to see at a glance in the search. It's not repeating the title, but adding to it. --SuperJew (talk) 03:45, 25 February 2026 (UTC)

Personnel templates

There are several reasons why a player can be added to a club's inactive list, with the ones defined publicly at the moment being season-ending injuries or retirements, and the most recent definition given by the AFL of a long-term injury is a 6+ week injury/illness. They are not one and the same (or one the subset of another, as you claimed I was trying to say) – a season-ending injury is going to be a long-term injury by defintion more often than not, so there is no harm whatsoever in marking a player as such, but that is not the only reason why a player can be moved to the inactive list, and a player can have a long-term injury without needing be transferred to the inactive list, so it wouldn't be doubling up; not marking a player like Jamie Elliott as having a long-term injury (when we have the ability to) implies that he is inactive for reasons other than injury. All of the personnel templates are formatted in this way, so unless you'd like to discuss any alternatives as to how to format the legend, given the amount of time and effort that I put into cleaning up these templates, I'd appreciate if you kept things consistent rather than singling out and protecting one club's template (which would be rather hypocritical given certain accusations of 'owning') and formatting it differently from the others based on a different interpretation. 4TheWynne (talk • contribs) 16:14, 28 May 2026 (UTC)

Thanks for the breakdown. No need for accusations of ownership here; I'm just trying to make sure the template is as concise as possible for the reader. Also, it makes sense that I follow and edit my club's pages.

To the actual point: if a player being on the inactive list already indicates they are sidelined for the season (allowing for mid-season signings), what specific value does adding the LTI tag bring to the reader? If 'Inactive' handles the list management status, doesn't adding 'LTI' on top of it create unnecessary and confusing double-markup? --SuperJew (talk) 19:40, 28 May 2026 (UTC)

I think I've already answered that – it indicates to readers that the players are inactive due to long-term injuries; if we were talking about adding multiple symbols, I could maybe understand (even if I still didn't necessarily agree with) your point about concision, but it's reasonably self-explanatory and hardly confusing. 4TheWynne (talk • contribs) 03:37, 29 May 2026 (UTC)

But they are two separate list management mechanisms. The Long-Term Injury (LTI) list allows a club to elevate a rookie, while the Inactive list allows a club to replace a player entirely via a draft (such as the Mid-Season Draft).

The point of the squad template is to reflect current list status, not the reasoning. The reason why a player was placed on the inactive list is irrelevant to the squad listing page. If a reader is interested in knowing, it should be written out in prose on the player's page. --SuperJew (talk) 08:40, 29 May 2026 (UTC)

I disagree that the point of the template has always strictly been about list status and not the reasoning, given retirements are another reason for players to be added to the inactive list. You might not personally care why, but the reason's not irrelevant at all – as much as I'd love if everyone contributed to player prose across the league so that readers could read about it, in the meantime, it is much easier to mark them on the template; the templates now source the official injury lists as well, which include players that are out with season-ending injuries, so we've been marking all players with 6+ week injuries, whether active or not, based on that. 4TheWynne (talk • contribs) 09:24, 29 May 2026 (UTC)

Do you mark every single reason that a player is put on the inactive list? Mark a couple of players in the AFLW with 🤰🏼 or maybe mark a player with 🎓 ? Anyways, the main point is you're using the same symbol for two different things - one that the player is injured (and therefore was place on the inactive list) and two that the player is on the long-term injury list. --SuperJew (talk) 11:54, 29 May 2026 (UTC)

No need for smartarse comments here; as a matter of fact, yeah, we will be marking AFLW players who are inactive due to pregnancy, just not with an emoji. To be 100% honest it was actually destubbed 2 hours before the end of the contest, only the "Save" button was clicked late as I fell asleep literally on the computer after pulling an all-nighter the previous night to trade blows in Venezuela with you ;)
