GA mentorship follow-up
[edit]Hi! I'm following up from our conversation on the GA mentorship page. To clarify, I was suggesting you look for a nominated article that met all three of those requirements (a, b, and c). It is also perfectly okay if you want to get some more experience on Wikipedia before conducting your first GA review- it is pretty crucial to understand copyright, for instance. - Hi, sorry for the confusion - my phrasing could have been clearer. I was suggesting that you find an article which checks these three boxes: a) short b) non-controversial and c) related to a topic you're already familiar with. Unfortunately there aren't usually a lot of geography GA nominations; right now there's just one besides yours (Raijua), which is pretty short but would require evaluation of Indonesian-language sources. You can look around topics like architecture, transport, and/or biology to see if you can find something else that interests you too. Personally I definitely recommend looking over successful GA reviews by experienced reviewers before doing one of your own. That really helped me when I was starting out. - Great! You can browse through those sections at WP:GAN or let me know if you'd prefer a suggestion. Here are a few fairly straightforward GA reviews I've done if you'd like to peruse one of them: Talk:Muehlenbeckia australis/GA1, Talk:Open water swimming at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships â Mixed 5 km team relay/GA1, and Talk:Graham Farmer Freeway/GA1. How I format them is just one way to approach a GA review, but regardless of how it's organized certain things must be done during the review (such as a source spot check, copyright scan, etc.). - That was fast! Since GA reviews can have a bit of a learning curve, how about we do one together first so you can see the process in action? A big reason for this is that one of the most critical jobs of a reviewer is catching copyright issues. It can be tricky to spot if you haven't done it before, I definitely missed some close paraphrasing in my early work here. If you're open to it, I can pick out a short history or architecture GAN, start the review, and walk you through how I run copyright scans and source spot-checks step-by-step. - The answer depends on how comfortable you feel with the GA criteria and assessing for issues like copyright violations. Anyone can start a review at any time, but there's also no obligation or deadline to do so. If you feel ready, you can open a review; if not, it is perfectly okay to wait.
