What is this? Exchange Bingo is a fun way to read and review an exchange. It provides a little extra incentive to stay on top of reading and reviewing for a large exchange. Also, life is more fun with games.
How does it work? Regular Bingo works as follows: Game players receive a 5 x 5 card of numbers. Someone calls out numbers, and players mark out numbers on their card when they are called. It's entirely up to chance as to what numbers get called out. There's different ways of determining a winner, including getting five in a row or covering up the entire card.
In Exchange Bingo, you get a 5 x 5 card of names of random exchange participants. When a gift belonging to a recipient on your card posts, review it. Mark on your card that this gift has been revealed and that you reviewed it.
How do I sign-up?Use this form. You can buy one Bingo card by offering a SMALL PRIZE, such as an icon, drabble (100-500 words), or story banner. Or you can buy a bundle of five Bingo cards by offering a LARGE PRIZE, such as a longer story (minimum 2,500 words), art, or LJ makeover. (Note: If you offer a larger prize, you need only supply ONE prize, not five.)
A complete list of suggested prizes is included in the sign-up form. There is also an option for 'other' if you produce a craft that isn't listed.
Everyone who plays offers a prize. Once you complete the sign-up form, your uniquely numbered Exchange Bingo cards will be e-mailed to you.
When do I sign-up? Any time up through December 24th. You also have until that date to purchase additional cards if you decide you want to increase your odds of winning.
How do I win? You can win one of three ways: your revealed/reviewed gifts spell an S, your revealed/reviewed gifts spell an H, or your completely cover your card (referred to as 'Cover Up').
What do I do if I win? Yell 'BINGO!' very loudly and run around like a crazy person. Then PM the mods. List your card number. Provide links to your reviews.
What happens when I win? You mean aside from the ticker tape parade? We send you a link to the list of the remaining prizes. You select the prize you want, let us know, and PM the person whose prize you selected. Once you win, that card is retired. So if you win because you marked off S or H, that card is not eligible for Cover Up.
We'll maintain separate lists for the SMALL and LARGE prizes. With the exception of the very FIRST S and H cards that win, S and H winners will pick from the SMALL list. Cover Up winners will pick from the LARGE prize list.
You have three days from when you receive the prize list to decide on a prize and email us back. Otherwise, you forfeit your prize.
When does the game end? When the exchange ends or we run out of prizes, whichever happens first.
But, but, this person on my card requested horror/fluff/smut/angst and I don't read horror/fluff/smut/angst! Poor you. Read and review anyway if you want a prize. You can always offer up another prize and get another card. ;)
But, but, this person on my card received a story that has seriously scary warnings that will either send me to jail or therapy depending on my local laws. If a recipient's story contains any of the following warnings and you have objections to reading it, on those grounds only, you may count that recipient's spot for a prize without reviewing. Please cite your reason and provide a link to the story so that the mods can verify.
Warnings eligible for this exception include: Abortion, adultery, bestiality, cannibalism, drug and/or alcohol abuse, incest, miscarriage, rape (this includes non-consensual (non-con), dubious-consent (dub-con), and the use of any mind-altering potions or spells with the intention to manipulate a person into having sex), severe abuse (including oppression, physical, emotional, sexual, and domestic violence), suicide/self-mutilation, torture or underage sex (according to the age of consent in your country/state).
But, but, this person on my card received the story **I** wrote! If it doesn't bother you to review your own story, it doesn't bother us that you did. If it does bother you, you may trade in your current card for a new one (cards must be traded within three days of receiving). This rule applies to authors participating in the exchange/fest only.
How do you produce the cards? Is it possible someone else has the same Bingo card as me? We have a list of exchange participants and some fancy Excel magic that generates the cards. It's statistically unlikely that any cards are the same. No names repeat on the cards.
What if I don't get my gift or my gift maker doesn't respond after a week or two? We're not the gift police, but we'll make sure that person's blacklisted. Also, we will make fun of their mom, possibly in public. If there's anything left in the prize pool, you'll get dibs. Everyone should have delivered gifts or made satisfactory arrangements with their giftee within two months after the exchange ends. At that point, we'll make a mod post, asking if everyone got their prize and ask for volunteers if anyone's gone missing.
I'm really nosy! What did other people win? Two months after the exchange ends, we'll post asking people to link to or provide photos of their gifts.
I'm a rebel. How do I get kicked out? Leave mean reviews. Flame. Leave the same generic reviews. Review anonymously.
This sounds fun, is this community just for the sshg_exchange? We're open to hosting any exchange. We'll be happy to share the base graphics and the files to generate all the cards. We'll ask that you provide a team of 2-3 people to manage any other exchanges.
Note: If an exchange takes a break from posting for any reason (e.g. holidays, alignment of Mars and Jupiter), then Exchange Bingo takes a break too.
