~Lyrics from the shower to the people

I heard Bill Clinton speak, he shook my hand over a crowd of students in front of me!
I get to vote for a black man or female for my next democratic nominee for the presidency tomorrow!
I heard Kanye West (Stronger) at least twice today!
I don't have a million midterms this week like everyone else!
I got my passport!
I am leaving the country for my spring break! Spontaneous!
My tax return will more than compensate for my plane ticket!

It will be a good week! With a good week to come!

Feeling like Katrina with no F.E.M.A; like Martin with no Gina
Like a flight with no visa--first class with the seat back, I still see ya

In my past, you on the other side of the glass of my memory's museum
I'm just saying,
Hey Mona Lisa, come home! You know you can't Rome without Caesar.

Wall Street falls, home construction slows, mortgage writing is down, manufacturing slows, unemployment is up (highest level since November 2005*, omgz!!1). I mean, you can say "business cycle", "fluctuation" and "robust consumer spending" all you want, and as much as I would like to think the stock market is just a fidgety mass of chihuahuas wetting their pants every time the NASDAQ takes a dive, I really think there's some substance to this fear of the country going into a recession. Of course, up until this point as more companies ready the releases of their fourth quarter earnings, and analysts get the chance to come back from their vacations in warm places and take the look back on what really happened at Christmas, I really think the "deflation/stagflation" had been the elephant in the room no one really wanted to talk about. Then again, everything in the economy is on a timelag anyways. And I am ready to just push onwards and just ignore this whole pessimistic outlook, continue buying the clothes I want to buy and dispose my disposable income in ways I find suitable...
However, it's hard to ignore the increasing cries of recession, and downward economy, when A) barely anyone wants to rent our apartment house, B) my father is out of a job, and C) all the stocks I'm watching at work turn red, along with the DOW Jones down about a hundred points. Strike that--250 points.
Needless to say, whatever state the economy is in right now (housing market is definitely soft, no doubt there) I think the entire country will just bide its time until elections next fall, and then a surge of optimism with flow through and revamp everyone once again--just in time for Christmas and Black Friday once more. Of course, this is dependent on whether tax cuts from President Bush will serve as any impact at all, be that short-term or long-term (I'm gonna say short-term). And THEN, if the economy continues to suffer, it is easily blameable on the new president. If it is Obama, analysts will say it's because he's green (and I'm not talking about environmentally-friendly here, folks), and if it's Hillary, it'll be because she's a woman. Ahh, c'est la vie. He or she will be under a lot of pressure, to say the least, because the economy might (probably won't) bounce back immediately anyways. It will also depend on whether the Fed decides to mix things up a bit, and change the interest rates at all between now and November. That will remain to be seen.
Either way, I suggest not whining about your favorite show being ousted when the State of the Union address is broadcasted on Jan. 28th, and just watch it--that'll be when the President tries to tell us the economy is awesome and we still love our troops, boy and girls!

Anyone familiar with Dilbert?

Dogbert,

I'm becoming a little concerned about how my wife and I are raising our 3-year-old. Whenever one of us makes a suggestion to him regarding an activity, he refuses to do it and within a few minutes presents the suggestion as one of his own ideas. I think we may be raising him to be a manager. What are we doing wrong?

John

Dear Toilet,

I wouldn't worry. From what you described, the kid actually performs activities, albeit after claiming them to be his idea. An actual manager would convince other people to do those activities for him. Your son is merely a liar, and that bodes well for a career in marketing.

Sincerely,

Dogbert

Inspired by that freaky artist

Dali.

He did the melting clocks/watches?

But that painting didn't have enough color for me.

Header - "One Second Before Awakening from a Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee Around a Pomegranate" (1944)
Divider - "Geopoliticus Child Watching the Birth of a New Man" (1943)
Comment Graphic - the actual pomegranate from the first painting

You scored as III - The Empress. The Empress is a maternal symbol. She is the mother figure who loves, nurtures and protects.
She will protect you, she will always be there when you are in trouble. When you fall over and graze your knee, the Empress will kiss it better.
Yet she is not a weak figure. Her compassion is strength. If her children are threatened she will stop at nothing to protect them. If well aspected in a Tarot spread, the Empress can symbolise security, protection and unconditional love. If badly aspected it can represent over-protectiveness, fear of risk taking and refusal to face the real world.

So, I ask you. Which cut do you like most? I'm not crazy about bangs, because I feel like they would drive me nuts hanging in my eyes.

Chicago is this weekend. So far I hear my little chickadees Ashlee and Kristin are attending, and the Christopher Miller, AND Michelle Wonderful Hetu, and Miss Courtneh Desorcy said she was heading up as well. All with possible guests. Not necessarily all on the same night.
Come and visit Bryant for a good show, I'm tellin ya! Our Amos is a TALENTED sweetheart, no lie. Tickets are $10 general admission.

I can't find the poem or story I'm supposed to be reading, so inevitably I'll come across something that DOES spark my interest. Like this little number...

What Lips My Lips Have Kissed

What lips my lips have kissed, and where, and why,
I have forgotten, and what arms have lain
Under my head till morning; but the rain
Is full of ghosts tonight, that tap and sigh
Upon the glass and listen for reply,
And in my heart there stirs a quiet pain
For unremembered lads that not again
Will turn to me at midnight with a cry.
Thus in the winter stands the lonely tree,
Nor knows what birds have vanished one by one,
Yet knows its boughs more silent than before:
I cannot say what loves have come and gone,
I only know that summer sang in me
A little while, that in me sings no more.

I suck because I only hang out with people who do everything at the wrong times. Don't you know the world revolves around me? Don't you know you can't put things off until they keep me out too late, and likewise they can't be too early, when I'll be working??
