Are you fed-up with garbage, full-of-shit sites where nobody actually communicates, such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Twitter? Do you wish your old friends who've migrated to those sites would return to LiveJournal? The the_lj_revival community has been set up with that aim in mind, and you are invited to join it. If you are already on LiveJournal and still have a Facebook profile, and would like to see more people returning to LJ or setting up accounts here, we invite you to post a link to this community on your Facebook Timeline. If you would like to find out who is still using LiveJournal and make contact with those who are already here, you are invited to copy and paste the 'about me' questions on the profile page and post them with your answers to the community.

11:05 am - Is this man crazy?

Okay, I know Democrats went through the last 8 years being embarrassed by their president, so touche, but Obama is driving me nuts.
Lets just put aside the ridiculous domestic agenda.
What the F is he doing internationally.
He completely ignores Iran, eventually eeking out some harsh language followed by...well, no action at all. Why? Well, it's none of our business, really.
But Honduras? Oh, stand back, that's our business. Country after country in South and Central America are falling to socialism and worse like dominoes (yes, I said it!), and when Honduras's president says "hey, how about we toss out the Constitution and elect me president for life or something" and Honduras's own supreme court and congress say no, and order the military to detain him for attempting a power gram of Chavez proportions, well Obama just won't stand for that, will he.
Then it's all "illegal coup" and he doesn't recognize the new president, and hey, lets throw some economic sanctions on Honduras.
Well, fuck you, Barack!

6:00 pm - Yard signs
|

jackstikishack
|
Is anyone else finding it prohibitively difficult to get a yard sign?
I went down the the Republican 5th district HQ to buy some yard signs. I'd get them for upwards of four candidates. I'd pay $10 a pop or whatever. More for one of those awesome huge ones. But the guy says they don't sell them, they give them out in exchange for making 25 phone calls. The phone calls seem to be short surveys on how people are voting. I'd assume it helps them narrow down their call lists closer to the election or whatever, but damn. I really don't want to do that. Can't I just give them money? It seems kind of ridiculous. At least say "$25 for a sign, or 25 phone calls." That at least seems reasonable.
Is every republican district doing this, or just mine?

I am ridicuously happy about this pick. Palin is an ass-kicker extraordinaire.
I was at the Minnesota State Fair today when it was announced. I was wearing my McCain button and three people asked me what I thought about the pick. I said it was fantastic. She's a tremendous pick. They we're all "ahh.... it'll be interesting." and I could tell they were thinking "who is Sara Palin" and all I said to them was to watch and find out. They will bask in the awesomeness too.
Already liberals in my wife's friends page are saying condescending shit like "Oh, she was only picked because she was a woman." A) definition of sexist, because they assumed being a woman is all she's got to offer. B) It's ignorant, because none of them know anything about her background, nor seem interested to find out, and C) even if it were true, how does it not say something positive about America that putting a woman or a minority on your ticket is a BENEFIT and not a hinderance.
So much racism and sexism today is coming from the left. It's fucking obscene.

2:48 pm - Bluenecks
|

jackstikishack
|
I'm coining a new term: Blueneck
It means ignorant leftist dipshit.
I was at Perkins with a friend when this gang of dipshits came in and sat near us, taking up three tables. It was an odd assortment of teens and adults so I thought it was another fraking bible group that always comes there, and we ignored them because as much as we respect Christianity as an important movement that created our modern civilization, they can be really annoying in groups.
Zach when to the can and I was sitting there when all of the sudden the adults started talking to each other. They started talking about Abraham Lincoln, one of the greatest presidents we've ever had, and I swear to God, they said (I'm paraphrasing):
- was he a profound racist - he owned slaves himself - though he did free the slaves of the south, he let the north keep their slaves. - he allowed indentured servitude in the north, which is the same thing as slavery. - indentured servitude was for a limited amount of time, but at the end the master would claim all kinds of debts the servant owed him, and he'd never be free.
Okay, BULLSHIT
- Lincoln was anti-slavery since he was a boy, as were his parents and church. - He NEVER owned a fucking slave. - Slavery was abolished in the North well before the Civil War. That's kinda what it was about. - Slavery is forced bondage; indentured servitude is a voluntary contract (though it's still not a good idea) - While there were probably jackasses, in truth an indentured servants contract not only set them free after so many years, but the master has to provide them with land, clothes, certain goods, and money.
Seriously, I'm sick of this. 95% of all hatred, bullying, and historical/cultural/political ignorance is coming from the left today.
Fucking Bluenecks.

12:30 am - Wiccan Soldier
|

I am pissed. I just saw something on Fox new's site that upsets me immensely. If I could figure out how to link to it, I would.
Last fall, Patrick Stewart of the United States Army, gave his life for his country in Afghanistan. He died in the line of duty, helping free a country from an oppressive religious, dictatorship. He has been honored as one of our country's heroes- except for one small detail. The US Department of Veterans affairs won't allow his grieving widow to put a symbol of his faith on his memorial plaque. Because his symbol of faith is a pentacle.
Wicca is a religion recognized by both the united states military and government. Military chaplains are trained in how to provide religious counseling to pagan soldiers. To the best of my knowledge, christianity, judaism, islam and even atheism are all accepted by the government and the families of soldiers of those faiths are allowed to place symbols on their faith on their memorials when they give their lives for their country. Why is paganism so different? Why is the united states department of veterans affairs going against the constitutional right of freedom of religion???
Apparently the only consolation they had for his widow was a statement that said "the department has received two requests recently to recognize a Wiccan emblem of belief. When we make a decision on those requests, the affected parties will be notified."
Hello? What's the issue here? Did we forget about the constitition. Emblem of belief. Wiccan (which is a religion). I do believe this falls under the category of religous freedom! Since when do some religions get freedome to express themselves and some don't?
It just really really gets my goat that this man stood up and died for his country while trying to bring freedom to people that was basically being religiously abused because as americans, we value our freedoms. And this man's widow cant even have the freedom to honor him and his beliefs. It's unconstitutional and un american. I must say, I am disgusted.
Don't get me wrong. I am a bi-sexual, pagan conservative. I believe in this country, I support the troops and I love that I was born in the greatest democracy on the planet. But because I love this country, I will defend to my death your right to say what you want and worship who you want, even if I don't agree. There should be no argument on this point. The man is a hero, and deserves a heroes honor and rememberance, no matter what his religious affiliation is.

|
On Saturday, I happened on the anti-war march in my city. There were many signs, chants and costumes. I can respect that. Some people feel the need to get out there and show their opposition. I watched the entire parade from front to back, and it took about twelve minutes to pass.
Then I heard the numbers claimed by the police and the march organizers.
Police: 3200 Marchers: 4200
From my standpoint, I watched twelve minutes of people marching in two lanes of traffic. They were maybe six to eight people across. That means 400 - 500 rows of people wandered by in that brief time. Wha? It could be done, but I'm not buying it, this time.
My point is just to highlight another chapter in the number games we play here in the city. When we have a rally, the claimed numbers are all over the place; when they have a march, it's the same thing.
If only one side or the other could accomplish something BIG. Why can't we have tens of thousands in the streets? Why can't we have one side or the other win a landslide election? Why can't a million --blank-- march have a two million person turnout?

If we started calling them Neo-Terrorists, would liberals finally want to fight against them?
I'm getting so fucking tired of smelly hippies talk about how the Patriot Act, or traffic-monitoring cameras are going to usher in some sort of theocratic totalitarian state, but in 2006, real theocratic totalitarian states exist all over the middle east, and they don't give a flying fuck.
"So this is how a Democracy ends. With thunderous applause." Bullshit. Nine times out of ten Democracies are replaced by dictatorships with bullets in the head.

I've been debating posting about this here for some time. It's not really related to Tampa, but it does sort of involve me and I live in the Tampa bay area... If it's inappropriate, I apologize and feel free to delete it.
Anyway, I grew up just East of New Orleans and my home town was completely wiped out. Correction, my entire home parish (county) was wiped out. This has gotten a little press, but not as much as needed to fix the problem that caused the destruction. Half of my family suddenly became homeless due to hurricane Katrina. Their lives have been torn apart. The effect on St. Bernard Parish was total destruction. This has been the first time in FEMA history that an entire parish(county) had been wiped out by a "natural" disaster. Many families are planning on moving back or would if they could get one small thing done.
This is where I need your help. The reason all of St. Bernard was flooded was due to the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet, as admitted by Greg Breerwood of the Army Corps of Engineers in a report by ABC 26 News in New Orleans. The residents of St. Bernard didn't want it built before construction of it began; now they have more reason to get it shut down permanently as all their fears have come true. The Mississippi River Gulf Outlet (MRGO) did two things: 1. it destroyed valuable wetlands that protected St. Bernard, the lower 9th Ward, and New Orleans East from the type of storm surge Katrina brought, and 2. it funned the surge right into these same areas. Dr. Hassan Mashriqui of the LSU Hurricane Center, a storm surge expert, speculates in the same report from ABC 26 New in New Orleans, that these to areas should not have flooded. According to this scientist, St. Bernard is mostly above sea level while the city is mostly below sea level and Chalmette, in particular, should have been the safest place in SE Louisiana from the storm surge.(You can view the report here, it's the first video link "Series introduction and analysis of Mississippi River Gulf Outlet (MRGO) impact on the region, with Doug Mouton")
If the outrage of the man made destruction doesn't motivate, then perhaps you should consider the following: Taxpayers spent $22 million+ a year in upkeep of the MRGO so that deep draft vessels could have access to the inner harbor of the Port of New Orleans. This is a ridiculous amount if you consider the fact that the MRGO only produces about a million dollars a year of increased revenue to the Port. The wharves that utilize the MRGO could be relocated without a loss of jobs or revenue while saving tax payers 21 million dollars a year - money that could be used to rebuild the wetlands and long gone cypress forests that surrounded St. Bernard Parish among other things.
The MRGO has got to be shut down. I need everyone in the US to write their representatives demanding that the MRGO be closed. I also need you to please pass this message around so that more people know about this. If you need more information, please visit http://www.ccmrgo.org/ This will cost you nothing but a few moments, but would help a LOT of people.

I went to school today and an SUV was parked in the ramp. The car had a couple anti-Bush stickers on it and one said "Redefeat Bush in 2004"
Someone wrote on the grime of the window with their finger "<3 U R Great!" with an arrow pointing to the sticker.
I crossed out Great and wrote "living in the past."
It made me smile.

"Happy New Year", from the new fella.
I'm one of the few conservatives amongst the darksiders of Minneapolis. I found this community while trying to replace the feeling I got from being a member at RightGoths.com (now dead).
Minneapolis is a hotbed of the "hip-to-be-lefty" lifestyle. If you dress a little granola, or a wear a little black, and you add in a "Not My President" button or "Re-Unelect Bush" t-shirt, you can blend right in. In all this "anti-only" lopsidedness, I can't see what anyone is "for". And they seem so sad. Bitter, mopey and sad.
I'm happy on the right, but then I'm said to be "deceived" or a "dittohead".
Uh-huh.
Anyway... hi all.

Have any of you see the article circulating around LJ about the people who supposedly were in town during the hurricane and couldn't get out? Is it me, or does the fact that it was written by people who contribute to the Socialist Worker raise an eyebrow to the possibility that there was a bit of embellishment involved in the creation of this piece?

12:53 am - Why New Orleans fell and it's people suffered.
|

I just posted this to my own journal, but wanted to share it with you. I don't say the obvious, but if you know the makeup of the leadership in New Orleans, you'll know who left who out in the pasture to weather the storm.
Sorry, the lack of aid after hurricane Katrina is NOT racially motivated. If it were so, than St. Bernard would have had help and a letter such as the one posted under the cut would NOT have been necessary. St. Bernard is 88.29% White, 7.62% Black or African American, 0.49% Native American, 1.32% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.73% from other races, and 1.52% from two or more races. 5.09% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. (from Wikipedia.org)
( LetterCollapse )
For those of you paying attention, this was the day that the buses and everything were moving in the city. St. Bernard is primarily a middle class white neighborhood. All this BULL SHIT about racial and class lines is just that, BULL SHIT. It's an angle. Plaquemines and Jefferson are in the same situation and have the same general makeup as St. Bernard. The media love their angles.
There was a failure in every department of government starting with the city. St. Bernard, Plaquemines, and Jefferson are used to being the ugly step children so they knew they'd have to fend for themselves for a bit and have accomplished a LOT for their citizens. What happened in the city was caused by what the city has bread; dependence on the government. For the people it was them depending on the city to take care of them. For the city it was them depending on the state to take care of it, and the state expected the Federal government to come in and do it all. If the mayor has known that the levee's wouldn't stand up to such a storm, than why didn't he create a task force in anticipation of what would happen? Why didn't the Governor, who also claims to have told the Federal government about the problem, step in and formulate a plan for such an incident? That's right, they were both waiting for some one else to fix their problem. And yet, all of this is being blamed on the supposed "every man for himself" attitude we have here. (article from the UK that I read but cannot find the link for) No my dears, it's the attitude of "the government will fix this" that has caused this. From the citizen all the way up to the Governor. Louisiana breeds this. It's why I fucking left. I got sick of seeing it; sometimes in my own family. It KILLED ME to think how great the city really COULD have been. Will we now get the chance to see? The disgusting underbelly of the city has been exposed and EVERYONE has been recoiling from it. NOTHING coming out through the press has surprised me. Angered, yes, surprised, no. Angered that the bumbling idiots in charge constantly let things go. Angered at the citizens for not getting angry enough to make real change. Angered that the few of us that pointed out these things were called "snooty" and our comments disregarded.
All the beauty is still there. Maybe it was the city called the waters because she felt so dirty that she knew no other way to get rid of the ugliness.
