One thing Daniel had missed while living on Abydos was green and growing things; they tended to be rare away from oases. It was ironic, in a way, that he’d missed the very things that were most responsible for his allergies. Not that he was allergy free while living in the desert, but he did sneeze less.

Now here he was, back on earth, where there was grass, and trees, and countless varieties of flowering plants, and as pleasing as all that green was to his eyes, it was hell on his nose. He was sneezing so much it made him dizzy; maybe he wasn’t getting enough oxygen.

Dr Fraiser prescribed antihistamines, strong ones, morning and evening. It wasn’t an immediate fix, but after a few days, the sneezing settled down, and thankfully his medication didn’t seem to be causing drowsiness. He would have hated having to choose between being able to breathe and being able to stay awake. Both, in his opinion, were necessary.

“So, how does it feel to be back on earth?” O’Neill slid into the seat across from Daniel in the commissary.

“Strange,” Daniel admitted. “Everywhere’s so green and cold. I think I miss the desert.”
