My mom had 3 of the 4 of these recorded (off of PBS or Disney) when I was a kid. We used to watch them all the time. I went looking around online for a download with out much luck.
So I coughed up the money and bought a dvd set on ebay that had all 3 of his TV specials. They're VHS to dvd transfers so they aren't the best but very watchable.
These specials are amazing! I wanted share with all of Fred fans, so I ripped them and uploaded them.

My sister and my mom bought me Fred's autobioraphy Steps in Time for my birthday on Saturday. it's so incredible to read his words because they're so personal and can bring anyone so very close to him. he's never been this tangible to me since everything i've read online is a condensed version of his incredible life. I'm barely on Chapter 6, but this is so exciting.
This is sort of an extension of johnkeats's previous post on Robyn Astaire.
I just read http://www.fredastaire.net/biography/postscript.htm to find out more about exactly what Robyn Astaire did and it's so horrifying. I had completely forgotten about her until two days ago and had not known about this disaster. Is she insane? She's probably insane. how upsetting. greedy swine.
The latest victim of Robyn Astaire's lawsuit frenzy is Fredastaire.net. She managed to win control of the domain. They changed their name and are still up and running but its just another reason why it takes so long for his movies to come out on DVD. It's not OK for Ginger Rodgers to use clips with him in them when she was honored at the Kennedy center but selling his image to a Dirt Devil commercial is just great. Now I have that rant out of my system.
Here's two Fred desktop wallpapers for you all to enjoy!
|1024x768|800x600| Info: Yay, Multiple exposure Fred! I love how different he can make himself look. (Okay, that was the point of the photo, but it's still nifty!)
|1024x768|800x600| Info: Another multiple exposure picture, this time of Fred dancing.
I just borrowed a DVD version of Top Hat. It's so WONDERFUL because I love hearing what Ava Astaire has to say about her father (so cute that she still refers to him as "Daddy" and she's over 60 year old). She's a very good reminder of how Fred was a beautiful and caring human being. What I would give to be Fred Astaire's offspring!
I've only seen VHS recordings of all the Astaire-Rogers films, and I noticed that in the VHS version of Top Hat, there's a cut in the beginning of the movie where Ginger Rogers tells Eric Rhodes that she wants to go back to America and after he says "I WILL KILL HIM FOR YOU" the camera cuts to her saying "are we leaving or aren't we?" in the DVD version, it seems to have the original version where Eric says, "for the woman, the kiss! for the man, the sword!" and she asks "and what about the children?" Does anyone know why that part was cut out of the movie in the other versions?
so what did i get for christmas today? only the thing i had been asking for...
...the astaire and rogers collection - volume one! i'm so happy you guys! it came with top hat, swing time, the barkleys of broadway (one of my absolute faves!), follow the fleet and shall we dance. i'm about to watch it right now and i'll tell you guys about all the nifty things on it, i'm so excited.
hope you all are having a very merry christmas! &hearts, imani
I've been a big Fred Astaire fan ever since my mum was watching Fred and Ginger's films when I was small, and I asked "who that man" was. XD
Anyway, I love The Bandwagon - it's one of my favourite Fred films, but my all time favourite would have to be Follow The Fleet. I can't resist Fred in a Navy uniform, and the character he plays in this film is so loveable no matter what!
I've got some Fred icons for you all, but I'll post them behind the cut so it doesn't clog things up!
