Hello everyone,
First off, I am female, so I apologize ;) I am gay, however, and I thought it would be helpful to post here! I am a rising undergrad senior who is looking into applying for Ph.D programs in the fall. I want to do Women's Studies / Gender Studies with the goal of becoming a college professor, and I've realized through my research that the University of Arizona as well as Arizona State both have some of the best programs in the country.
What I want to know is, with Arizona being a red state overall and all that, how liberal is Tucson and/or Tempe, depending on which area[s] you're familiar with, and more specifically / to the point, how is the LGBTQ community? Is the surrounding area very homophobic / hostile? I know that society at large is, but as a Californian who attends college in western Massachusetts and who also is a lesbian with a fiancee who is a huge part of my life [obviously], I really want to know what I'm getting myself into before I move to Arizona with her. Any input you could give me, even if it's anecdotal, would be *greatly* appreciated. I'm also going to post this to a few other communities [The University of Arizona community, an ASU one, a Tucson one, a Phoenix one, etc.].

We need your help send this out to everyone, there is an emergency
Scottsdale Human Relation Commission meeting scheduled for the 13th at 5pm at 7575 E. Main st. Scottsdale (south on Miller off Indian School).
Please get the message out we need all the people we can get. It would do well to have as many community members there because of the meeting Equality Arizona will be having with the Mayor on the 15th.
Let's fill the room and let the City and the Commission know that we are not happy with the way Scottsdale has been handling there TLGB problems.

I am inviting you to come out next weekend to my art show. Well....two art sh...well...okay...three art shows. I am showing art in three places. Two are on the Art Detour route (monOrchid and Comet's Corner) and include multiple artist shows. So if these are two places you do NOT want to miss! ART DETOUR is next weekend. Free Shuttles all 3 days! Hours are Friday, 6pm-10pm Saturday, Noon til 8pm Sunday, Noon til 6pm.
I will be at monOrchid Various paintings 214 E. Roosevelt on "Roosevelt Row" 15,000 sq. ft warehouse style gallery. I am showing all new work the third Art Detour in a row here with the Mob at monOrchid, eight of Phoenix's finest 'mystery gallery' artists. Hey. I just got back from a month in New Oleans cause my National Guard unit was deployed there for Hurricane Katrina relief. While I was there I got close to a few of my fellow soldiers and ended up coming out to a few of them. One was a girl that I already new it would be kewl cause I knew she was gay herself. I also told another fellow guy soldier were there and last night at the party that a club had for us i told one of my Sergeants and another fellow soldier. So far everyone has been really kewl about it. There are a few people that I KNOW I'm never gonna tell like my platoon sergeant who says that he's a "card carrying homophobe". I find that really funny cause I'm one of his favorite soldiers and he's steady telling me all this. I just sit back and laugh.
I just wanted to share that and ask y'all what you think about gays in the military.
