Big Beat is an offshoot of breakbeat music that developed in the early to mid ‘90s in the UK. It expands on typical breakbeat grooves by adding prominent basslines and often featuring influences from hip-hop and styles of rave music, such as breakbeat hardcore. The genre, although short lived, rose to huge popularity as the '90s came to a close, largely spreading across Europe.
