About Soul Pop

Soul Pop is African-American music designed to reach the masses. With an all-inclusive appeal, the style combines elements of soul and gospel.

Commercial success became part of the equation for producers of the subgenre, crafting anthems that showcased smooth melodies, blues-tinged vocalization, and memorable hooks. In the mid-60s, Soul Pop was at its peak thanks to Motown Records, which became “the sound of young America.”

The importance of Soul Pop lies in the crossover artists who served as the bridge between Black music and bigger audiences, in this way taking down the notion of segregation.
