Nice catch! I verified this empirically by running Claude Code from a directory with dots and spaces (/tmp/test.dots.and spaces) and confirmed it encodes the project path as -private-tmp-test-dots-and-spaces — so dots and spaces are indeed replaced with dashes, just like slashes.
Clean change, good deduplication into a helper function, and the doc comment is appreciated. LGTM 👍
